X-Files fans will be able to add a new chapter to Mulder and Scully’s story with The X-Files Origins series, a pair of YA novels about 15-year-old Dana Scully and 17-year-old Fox Mulder.

EW can exclusively announce the two new novels in The X-Files Origins series, Agent of Chaos and Devil’s Advocate. Acquired by Imprint/Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, each story is set in the spring of 1979, when serial murder, the occult, and government conspiracy were highlighted in the news. The books follow Mulder and Scully as they experience life-changing events that set them on the path to becoming the FBI agents depicted in by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson on the cult-favorite TV show The X-Files.

Agent of Chaos, Mulder’s story, will be written by No. 1 New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia, the co-author of the Beautiful Creatures and Dangerous Creatures novels and the author of the upcoming The Lovely Reckless, publishing Oct. 2016 from Imprint. Her solo series, The Legion, includes the New York Times bestseller Unbreakable and the sequel Unmarked, which were both Bram Stoker nominees.

Devil’s Advocate, Scully’s story, will be written by Jonathan Maberry, a New York Times bestselling thriller and horror novelist, multiple Bram Stoker Award winner, and Marvel Comics writer. Maberry’s novels include Assassin’s Code, Dead of Night, Patient Zero, and Rot & Ruin.

“When I watched the pilot episode back in 1993, I became immediately obsessed with The X-Files,” says Erin Stein, Publisher of Imprint, in a statement. “As a die-hard fan of the show, the opportunity to work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters is a dream come true for me. Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories.”

Agent of Chaos and Devil’s Advocate are set to publish simultaneously in Jan. 2017.

Teen Mulder and Scully Will Get Their Own ‘X-Files’ Origins Novels

FOX’s 2016 X-Files finale will leave us all in the lurch on Mulder and Scully’s future, so why not explore their past? Like, way past? That’s right, it’s teen Mulder and Scully to the rescue in a pair of 2017 novels, as FOX gets thirsty for that sweet, sweet YA money.

As outlined by Entertainment Weekly, January 2017’s The X-Files Origins will follow both Mulder and Scully separately by their own novels (no time-travel or backstory shoehorns here, folks), the Mulder portion of which will go by the title Agent of Chaos, and Scully Devil’s Advocate. Both are set in the spring of 1979 (in which Mulder is 17, and Scully 15), “when serial murder, the occult, and government conspiracy were highlighted in the news.”

Beautiful Creatures co-author Kami Garcia will write the Mulder novel, while bestseller Jonathan Maberry will tackle Scully’s half. Says Imprint publisher Erin Stein of the books:

When I watched the pilot episode back in 1993, I became immediately obsessed with The X-Files. As a die-hard fan of the show, the opportunity to work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters is a dream come true for me. Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories.

And the artwork:

Welp, it could be awhile yet before we know if The X-Files will continue in live-action, but could young adult novels reveal anything new about Mulder and Scully? Stay tuned for more

‘The X-Files Origins’ YA Novels Will Star Teenage Mulder and Scully

Even as the six-episode revival of “The X-Files” comes to a close, there are plans for more adventures of Mulder and Scully, in print form. Make that a significantly younger Mulder and Scully.

TEENAGE MULDER AND SCULLY WILL STAR IN A NEW X-FILES SERIES

WHO DOESN'T LOVE A GOOD ORIGIN STORY?

As  The X-Files revival series wraps up its six-episode run tonight (February 22), fans aren’t ready to let Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) go… again. But thankfully, they won’t have to, at least not for very long.

Two new books in The X-Files universe will drop January 2017,Entertainment Weekly revealed. Making up The X-Files Origins series, the novels star Mulder and Scully like you’ve never seen them before: as teenagers.

Featuring a 17-year-old Mulder and a 15-year-old Scully, novelsAgent of Chaos and Devil’s Advocate will each focus on one member of America’s government conspiracy duo.

Agent of Chaos, written by Beautiful Creatures author Kami Garcia, will follow Mulder’s origin story, while Devil’s Advocate, written byAssassin’s Code author Jonathan Maberry, focuses on Scully’s adolescent experiences.

While we have some knowledge of the super sleuthers’ early years (i.e. Mulder’s sister’s abduction) these two books get to explore all the unanswered questions we didn’t even know we had.

And yes, while it’s not the same as seeing Mulder and Scully together on your TV screen, it’s still a ~spooky~ new way to obsess over all things X-Files. We still want to believe.

The X-Files origins books to follow Mulder and Scully as teenagers

Mulder and Scully may have become one of TV's most iconic duos, but it wasn't always so.

A pair of YA novels has been planned, set to follow the adventures of a 15-year-old Dana Scully and 17-year-old Fox Mulder. Revealed by Entertainment Weekly, the adjacent narratives Agent of Chaos and Devil's Advocate are both set in the spring of 1979; when paranoia surrounding serial murders, the occult, and government conspiracies lit up the news networks.

The novel promises to essentially act as origin stories for the pair, marking the life-changing experiences that propelled both towards a career in the FBI. This, of course, forms an accompaniment to the recently rebooted The X-Files television series, which saw the return of both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as Mulder and Scully.

Mulder's story, Agent of Chaos, will be penned by New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia, who co-authored Beautiful Creatures; Scully's Devil's Advocate will be authored by Jonathan Maberry, another New York Times bestselling author and Marvel Comics writer, known for Assassin's Code and Patient Zero.

"When I watched the pilot episode back in 1993, I became immediately obsessed with The X-Files," stated Erin Stein, Publisher of Imprint. "As a die-hard fan of the show, the opportunity to work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters is a dream come true for me. Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories."

The novels will be published by Imprint/Macmillan Children's Publishing Group, set for simultaneous release in January 2017.

Teen Mulder and Scully Will Investigate Crime in New X-Files Young Adult Novels

Mulder and Scully’s newest adventures might be coming to a close on TV tonight, but they’re getting more stories to tell in a duo of new Young Adult novels... or at least their teenaged versions are.

Sadly—or thankfully, depending on your point of view—these books won’t see teen Mulder and Scully team up for some sort of Famous Five-esque teenage X-Files series. Instead, the books follow young Dana and Fox in 1979. In X-Files: Origins, the two teens, yet to meet, find themselves thrust into separate incidents that set them on their paths to joining the FBI later in their lives. Mulder’s book will be called Agent of Chaos and be written by Kami Garcia, while Scully’s, Devil’s Advocate, will be written by Jonathan Maberry.

No further details were released, other than that the late 1970s setting is meant to be emblematic of the time period’s fascination with government conspiracies like the fallout of Watergate, as well as occult practices and serial killers like Lawrence Bittaker and Roy Norris. Presumably the books won’t just be about teen Mulder complaining about his sister being taken by aliens or Scully doing a buttload of revision for her studies and med school prep (which would be kind of hilarious, but not great book material).

But it’s interesting to see Fox pushing X-Files across various media platforms—and, considering Garcia and Maberry’s books are specifically Young Adult stories, targeting an audience that didn’t grow up watching the original series.

MULDER AND SCULLY WILL BE BACK AS TEENAGERS IN ‘THE X-FILES ORIGINS’ SERIES

As another chapter in The X-Files soon comes to a close, while another season is uncertain at present, fans can soon enjoy The X-Files Origins, two books about Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as teenagers.

The current revival of the popular show The X-Files is almost over, giving fans a short-lived taste once again for the exciting adventures of Mulder and Scully. The Inquisitr recently published a couple of spoilers for the last episode in the current mini-series, and also hinted that there might possibly be more to come.

Reportedly, the whole emotional vibe surrounding the last episode makes it even more likely that another season will follow in the future, although nothing has yet been confirmed. Even the creator of The X-Files, Chris Carter, has admitted that the lives of Mulder and Scully will continue, but says there is no guarantee that another TV chapter in their lives is in the works.

However, to keep fans happy in the meantime, Entertainment has just announced the upcoming publication of two YA novels in The X-Files Origins series about their favorite characters, but at a much younger age. Dana Scully will be 15 years of age, alongside a young 17-year-old Fox Mulder, in the two new novels. Both iconic characters get a whole book to themselves, making the two novels a prequel into their whole The X-Files experience.

The books will be titled Agent of Chaos and Devil’s Advocate, and will be published by Imprint/Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group. While the books are set to target the younger reading market, adults will quite possibly get a kick out of them, too.

Both stories are reportedly set in the spring of 1979, at a time when the occult, serial murders, and government conspiracy were all over the news. The books follow the paths taken by teenage Mulder and Scully as life-changing experiences push them towards becoming the FBI agents we know and love so well, played by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson on The X-Files TV show.

Erin Stein, publisher at Imprint, is a firm fan of The X-Files and told Entertainment, “When I watched the pilot episode back in 1993, I became immediately obsessed with The X-Files.” Stein went on to say as a die-hard fan of the show that this gave her the opportunity to “work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters,” which is a dream come true for her.

“Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories.”

As for the incredible authors involved in the two new YA novels, what will be Mulder’s story, Agent of Chaos, is to be written by No. 1 New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia.

Garcia was the co-author of the Beautiful Creatures and Dangerous Creatures novels, as well as a solo series, The Legion, which included the New York Times bestselling book Unbreakable and its sequel novel, Unmarked. Both the latter books became Bram Stoker Award nominees.
Garcia is definitely excited, as she takes to Twitter to announce her new project.

Scully’s story, Devil’s Advocate, is to be penned by Jonathan Maberry, a New York Times bestselling horror and thriller author, Marvel Comics writer, and multiple Bram Stoker Award winner. Among his books are Assassin’s Code, Dead of Night, Patient Zero, and Rot & Ruin.

Reportedly, the two new novels in The X-Files Origins series will both publish simultaneously in January, 2017. Now we can just imagine Chris Carter coming up with a prequel of The X-Files new stories for TV with much younger stars

X-Files: Origins books will explore the teen years of Mulder and Scully

Though The X-Files has occasionally referenced the younger days of David Duchovny's Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson's Scully, it has usually just been looks at their childhoods. Now a pair of young adult books is aiming to explore their formative teenage days.

X-Files: Origins, which will hit shelves both physical and digital in January next year, so far comprises two books: Agent Of Chaos and Devil's Advocate. Both stories are set in the spring of 1979 as serial murders, occult happenings and government conspiracies were spiraling through the news. Both characters experience life-changing events that send them on the path to their FBI futures.

Agent Of Chaos, about a 17-year-old Mulder, is by Beautiful Creatures' Kami Garcia, while Devil's Advocate, following a 15-year-old Scully is being written by Jonathan Mayberry, who has written both books and Marvel Comics.

We're not 100% sure the world needs that much more information about why Mulder and Scully became the people they are, but we'll wait and see. Now, though, we want Skinner: Badass From Birth.

And if you've been watching The X-Files on Channel 5, check out our features about the show, including recap/reviews of every episode to date.

‘The X-Files’ Prequel Novels Will Follow a Young Mulder and Scully

The basic history of FBI special agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully was doled out on a need-to-know basis throughout the original run of The X-Files. She was a promising medical medical doctor from a military family who was recruited into the bureau straight out of college. He was a normal-enough kid whose entire existence was turned upside down when his sister was apparently abducted by aliens. Anything beyond that was not necessary to enjoy watching them travel the country, solving supernatural mysteries.

But since the revival of this iconic show (which got significantly better after I reviewed the first two episodes) has attracted massive audiences, The X-Files is journeying into territory that every major genre series eventually passes through. Yep, it’s time for a prequel. In young adult book form. Called The X-Files Origins.

The X-Files Origins, which is being published by Imprint/Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, is getting started with two YA novels: Agent of Chaos, which follows a 17-year old Mulder, and Devil’s Advocate, which follows a 15-year old Scully. Entertainment Weekly has the details on this new series, including a taste of what it will actually be about:

[E]ach story is set in the spring of 1979, when serial murder, the occult, and government conspiracy were highlighted in the news. The books follow Mulder and Scully as they experience life-changing events that set them on the path to becoming the FBI agents depicted in by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson on the cult-favorite TV show The X-Files.

Agent of Chaos will be written by Kami Garcia, author of Beautiful Creatures and Dangerous Creatures. Devil’s Advocate will be written by Jonathan Maberry, author of Assassin’s Code and Dead of Night. Both books are set to arrive on shelves in January 2017.

With the X-Files revival a success and more Mulder and Scully adventures surely on the way, the intention here is obvious: hook the younger folks who are interested in The X-Files…and maybe sell more than a few books to older fans who will read anything featuring these two beloved characters. Even if they’re kids. And aren’t actually solving X-Files. And aren’t actually working together, which is half of the fun of the original series.

To be fair, there are definitely some obvious Mulder stories to tell. After all, the man joined the FBI believing in paranormal phenomena and dedicated his career to the subject. It’s entirely possible that he saw some pretty crazy stuff between his sister’s abduction and his years working for the federal government. Scully seems trickier, especially because the whole point of her character is that she’s skeptic who is partnered up with Mulder because she’s level-headed and has had a fairly normal, practical existence up to that point.

But if you wanted proof that The X-Files was officially and truly back and doesn’t plan to leave anytime soon, here you go. Could that third movie be far behind at this point?

‘X-Files: Origins’ Books Will Follow Mulder & Scully as Teens

Two new YA novels will delve into the early lives of future ‘X-Files’ agents Mulder and Scully.

Have you ever wondered what FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully were like as teenagers? Those questions will be answered soon in a pair of upcoming books that will be officially recognized as part of The X-Files canon. These first two entries of what might become an ongoing series will bring a whole new chapter to this saga, which was most recently continued in Fox's The X-Files event series.

The YA novels, which are being aimed at tweens and teenagers, will follow a 15 year-old Dana Scully and a 17-year-old Fox Mulder. The first book is titled Agent of Chaos. The Second novel in the series is titled Devil's Advocate. Both stories are set in the spring of 1979. Read more at: https://tr.im/8Smkg

Serial murder, the occult and government conspiracy will rest at the heart of these all-new tales. The subjects were all prevalent in the news of that era, and are certainly on the minds of high schoolers Fox and Scully. Imprint/Macmillan Children's Publishing Group is publishing the two novels. And these written works will show us a few life-changing events in the lives of our two favorite FBI agents. Read more at: https://tr.im/8Smkg

The events depicted in the books will set the characters played by Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny on their career paths. And they will tie directly into The X-Files TV show. Each book will actually be devoted to one of the two characters. Agent of Chaos centers on Mulder, with No. 1 New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia delving deep into his somewhat dark past. Kami Garcia is best known for the Beautiful Creatures and Dangerous Creatures novels, and has The Lovely Reckless coming in October 2016. She is also responsible for The Legion series, which includes New York Times bestseller Unbreakable and its sequel Unmarked, both nominated for the Bram Stoker award. No further story details for Agent of Chaos have been released. Read more at: https://tr.im/8Smkg

Devil's Advocate will tell the story of a young Scully. It is coming from New York Times bestselling thriller and horror novelist Jonathan Maberry, winner of multiple Bram Stoker Awards. He's also written for Marvel comics. His books include Assassin's Code, Dead of Night, Patient Zero, and Rot & Ruin. No Devil's Advocate details have been revealed at this time. Says Publisher of Imprint Erin Stein.

"When I watched the pilot episode back in 1993, I became immediately obsessed with The X-Files. As a die-hard fan of the show, the opportunity to work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters is a dream come true for me. Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories."

While Fox wants more new episodes of The X-Files, no talks for an event sequel series have begun. And it isn't known when the entire creative team will have time to reunite once again. So, instead of getting another season next January, these two books will arrive in that same frame next year. Season 1 of the event series airs its finale My Struggles II tonight. So, who's excited about learning the true past of Mulder and Scully?

HELL YEAH, WE'RE GETTING 'X-FILES' ORIGIN STORY NOVELS

It sounds like fan fiction, but it's the real deal: The X-Files is getting the origin story treatment, in the form of YA novels.

Dana Scully and Fox Mulder will each get their own X-Files Origins novel, set in 1979, when they were 15 and 17, respectively. According to Entertainment Weekly, the embarrassingly titled The Devil's Advocate and Agent of Chaos will "follow Mulder and Scully as they experience life-changing events that set them on the path to becoming the FBI agents." Bestselling Beautiful Creatures novelist Kami Garcia will tackle Mulder's story, and horror writer Jonathan Maberry is taking on Scully's.

“When I watched the pilot episode back in 1993, I became immediately obsessed with The X-Files,” says Erin Stein, Publisher of Imprint/Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group, in a statement. “As a die-hard fan of the show, the opportunity to work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters is a dream come true for me. Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories.”

We'd prefer a second (and better) season of the TV reboot, but this will have to do.

The X-Files Origins' series to follow Mulder and Scully as teenagers

The X-Files Origins series has acquired two new books, which will follow Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as teenagers.

According to Entertainment Weekly, two new YA novels 'Agent of Chaos' and 'Devil's Advocate' will be published by Imprint/Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group and will tell the tale of 17-year old Mulder and 15-year old Scully.

The website reports: "Each story is set in the spring of 1979, when serial murder, the occult, and government conspiracy were highlighted in the news.

"The books follow Mulder and Scully as they experience life-changing events that set them on the path to becoming the FBI agents depicted in by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson on the cult-favourite TV show The X-Files."

'Agent of Chaos' is Mulder's story and will be written by No. 1 New York Times bestselling author Kami Garcia, while Scully's story 'Devil's Advocate' will be penned by Jonathan Maberry, a New York Times bestselling thriller and horror novelist.

In a statement, Erin Stein, publisher of Imprint, said: "When I watched the pilot episode back in 1993, I became immediately obsessed with The X-Files.

“As a die-hard fan of the show, the opportunity to work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters is a dream come true for me. Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories.”

Agent of Chaos and Devil’s Advocate are due to be published simultaneously in January 2017.

Meanwhile, Mulder and Scully are currently back on our TV screens in a new series of The X-Files, which airs on Monday's at 9pm on Channel 5.

The X-Files Prequel Novels Will Follow Mulder and Scully as Teenagers

If there's one thing the X-Files revival has proven so far, it's that fans can't get enough of Mulder and Scully. So naturally, the franchise is expanding into young adult novels with the X-Files: Origins series, which will follow our favorite FBI agents as teenagers.

The series will begin with two novels that will be released simultaneously: Agent of Chaos and Devil's Advocate. Agent of Chaos will follow Mulder as a 17-year-old, while Devil's Advocate will follow Scully as a 15-year-old. Here are the details, according to a report

Each story is set in the spring of 1979, when serial murder, the occult, and government conspiracy were highlighted in the news. The books... follow Mulder and Scully as they experience life-changing events that set them on the path to becoming the FBI agents depicted by David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson on the cult-favorite TV show The X-Files.

Agent of Chaos will be written by Kami Garcia, best known for writing the fantasy YA novel Beautiful Creatures, which went on to become a #1 NYT bestseller, as well as Bram Stoker nominees Unbreakable and Unmarked. Devil's Advocate will be penned by Jonathan Maberry, a horror fiction writer who won the Bram Stoker Award for his novels Rot & Ruin, Dust and Decay, and Flesh and Bone. He has also written several works for Marvel Comics, including issues of Wolverine, Black Panther, and Marvel Universe vs. The Punisher.

"When I watched the pilot episode back in 1993, I became immediately obsessed with The X-Files," said publisher Erin Stein. "As a die-hard fan of the show, the opportunity to work with incredible authors on original stories about these characters is a dream come true for me. Why did Mulder become a believer? Why did Scully become a skeptic? We get to tell those stories."

Agent of Chaos and Devil's Advocate are set to be published in January 2017.
