In addition, NBC has yet to announce whether Aquarius will head on to Season 3 next year. The procedural drama following Charles Manson’s story before he and his crew murdered Sharon Tate  received low-ratings in Season 1.

But the network tried an unconventional approach of releasing all episodes online before they aired on TV. Season 1, according to TV Series Finale, posted a .53 average rating from the 18-49 demographic (or 2.79 million viewers).

Unfortunately, Season 2 is not getting better numbers, posting .41 rating or an average of 2.178 million viewers per episode. This might affect the show’s chances of renewal for another season.

The Season 2 finale of Aquarius titled Mother Nature’s Son airs on Sept. 1, Thursday, on NBC.

Aquarius - Season Finale

Los Angeles Police Department Det. Sam Hodiak (David Duchovny, Californication, The X-Files) the served his country in the Pacific Theater during World War II, and now protects his city in the late ’60s. When an old flame tells him that her daughter Emma Karn (Emma Dumont, Salvation, Bunheads) has gone missing, he jumps to action. His search leads him to find Emma living with a group of hippies led by a dirty, slight but violent figure named Charles Manson (Gethin Anthony, Game of Thrones). As he digs deeper to try and pull her out, Hodiak’s suit-and-tie worldview is attacked by the same peace-and-love mantra that is challenging institutions across America.

In the season 2 finale, Hodiak is newly "retired" and tries to hunt down the serial killer who's been tormenting him. Also: Manson sends Tex, Sadie, Emma, and Patty on a mission, and they get swept up in one of the country's most notorious crimes.

Aquarius Finale: Serial Killer Murders Detective Sam Hodiak?
By Kareen Liez Datoy on September 10, 2016

Aquarius finale will be aired soon and will come in two parts. But many fans are worried about what will happen to the show’s lead character. Speculations reveal that the show’s lead star Los Angeles Detective Sam Hodiak, played by David Duchovny, will die.

The series that premiered on May 2015 will air the Aquarius finale with Episode 12 titled Mother Nature’s Son and Episode 13 titled I Will.

The synopsis of the finale reveals that Detective Hodiak will try to track the mysterious serial killer and will appear at the doorstep of said criminal. However, this might pose a serious danger to the detective. That is why some are wondering if Detective Hodiak will make it alive or not.

In the same episode, Manson will send Tex, Sadie, Emma and Patty on a mission to get the money from Gary Hinman. They will also be swept up in the most notorious crime of the country, Hitflix reported.

On the other hand, Episode 13 synopsis reveals that Hodiak will successfully track the killer who had been tormenting him. Many theories indicate that the identity of the killer will be revealed in the last episode.

Will Aquarius Be Renewed Or Not?
The Aquarius finale ratings might determine if the show will get a renewal or not. For now, there are no reports yet if the show is cancelled or renewed but according to Deadline, the renewal appears to be gloomy.

— Seriable (@Seriable) September 4, 2016

The time slot of the show was recently changed from Thursday to Saturday, which could be one reason why the show’s ratings decreased. NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke also admitted that it would be tough to bring back the series for Season 3.

“David and the talent are really important to us, and we’ll continue to support the show wherever we put it,” said Salke. Apparently, Salke did not sound optimistic about the fate of the Charles Manson drama.

Aquarius Season 2 final episode will air on Sep. 10 on NBC network.

Aquarius Season 3 Update: Canceled Or Renewed? Season 2 Final Episode Tracks Down Killer?

Aquarius Season 3 is neither renewed nor canceled yet. The series that deals with criminals and murder mysteries will soon air its final episode. The final episode is divided into two parts. Episode 12 is titled Mother Nature’s Son and episode 13 is titled I Will. Perhaps, the finale ratings will decide the fate of the series in getting a renewal or not.

This series premiered in May 2015. It is an American period drama that deals around the lives of Los Angeles Detective Sam Hodiak (David Duchovny) and his partner Detective Brian Shafe (Grey Damon). The premiere season of this show focused on a missing teenage girl Emma, who is traced by Detective Sam with the help of his partner Brian Shafe.

Season 2 of this series deals with a serial killer. The Season 2 premiere episode saw Detective Sam Hodiak receiving a package of the missing girl’s photographs. A lot of killings take place and the killer is still not known. Perhaps the final episode of Aquarius will reveal the truth.

So far there is no news about the cancelation or renewal of this NBC show. And according to Deadline, chances of renewal are gloomy. This is mainly because the timeslot of Aquarius is recently changed from every Thursday to every Saturday. Moreover, it further reports that at the TCA, NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke admitted that bringing back the series for Season 3 would be “tough.”

Meanwhile, the synopsis of the Season 2 finale is out. Episode 12 reveals that Detective Sam Hodiak shows up at the doorstep of the mysterious serial killer. Also, Manson sends Bobby, Mary and Sadie to go to extreme measures to get money from Gary Hinman.

On the other hand, the synopsis of episode 13 reveals that Hodiak will be successful in tracking the killer. Perhaps the identity of the killer will be revealed in this final episode.

Aquarius Season 2’s final episode airs on Sep. 10 on NBC network.

TV: Watch ‘Aquarius’ finale on NBC

Mike Hughes 9:07 p.m. PDT September 9, 2016

TONIGHT'S MIGHT-SEE: “Aquarius” finale, 9 and 10 p.m., NBC.

Ever since “Aquarius” arrived last summer, we've known this was inevitable: In tonight's second hour, Charles Manson sends his followers (including Emma) to the home being rented by Sharon Tate.

That's in the second hour, which concludes the season ... and, presumably, the series. It's a dark way to end things; fortunately, there's also a fictional story to root for: In the first hour, Hodiak (David Duchovny) goes to extremes to confront the serial killer. That leads to Hodiak's “retirement”; in the second hour, he pursues the case without the advantages of being a cop.
