Duchovny and Anderson Return for THE X-FILES: COLD CASES

Written by Andrew Pollard

The waves made by The X-Files upon its brief return early last year showed that fans were still eager to see the antics of Mulder and Scully, and now comes word that you’ll be able to keep up with further new adventures for this fan favourite duo thanks to Audible and their upcoming X-Files audio series.

While the guys from Audible have a massively impressive track record with their audio shows and releases over the years, what will get fans particular excited here is that so many of The X-Files’ key players are on board for this new project. Adapted by Dirk Maggs and with creative direction from creator Chris Carter, The X-Files: Cold Cases will see the likes of David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Mitch Pileggi all returning to action.

The full press release on this exciting new project reads as below:

The series that had a generation looking to the skies gets a breathtaking audio revival in an original, full cast dramatization, featuring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

Based upon the graphic novels by Joe Harris – with creative direction from series creator Chris Carter – and adapted specifically for the audio format by multi-award-winning Dirk Maggs (best-known for his adaptations of Douglas Adams’ Hitchiker’s Guide To The Galaxy and Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere for the BBC), The X-Files: Cold Cases marks yet another thrilling addition to the X-Files saga.

Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want To Believe – providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival – a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long-thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to tackle a growing conspiracy involving their former department, the US government and forces not of this world.

Here, fans are treated once again to Mulder and Scully’s irreplicable chemistry as only the series’ leads could deliver; Duchovny’s deadpan and cynical aloofness finding its natural counterpoint in Anderson’s unwavering intelligence and rigidity. Appearances from series regulars and the actors who made them fan-favorites round out this must-listen arc: the gruff, no-BS righteousness of Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi); the distinctive click-puff of ‘The Cigarette Smoking Man’ (William B. Davis); and the stooge-like hijinks of three beloved conspiracy theorists called the ‘Lone Gunmen’ (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood).

The truth is out there. You just have to listen.

The X-Files: Cold Cases is available to pre-order now at www.audible.co.uk.

The X-Files: new Audible drama to star Duchovny & Anderson

The X-Files: Cold Cases is an audio drama adapted by Dirk Maggs, starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson...

Louisa Mellor
Apr 10, 2017

As we're told negotiations continue for Fox to make more X-Files episodes, fans will have a new opportunity to experience David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson playing the FBI's weirdest in The X-Files: Cold Cases, an Audible-exclusive drama based on Joe Harris' celebrated graphic novels.

The X-Files creator Chris Carter is listed as the 'creative director' of this new addition to the Mulder and Scully universe, with UK radio drama legend Dirk Maggs (H2G2, BBC Radio 4's Neil Gaiman adaptations) on adapting duties.

Here's a synopsis of what to expect story-wise:

Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want To Believe – providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival – a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long-thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to tackle a growing conspiracy involving their former department, the US government and forces not of this world.

There you go.

Also due to appear in the audio dramatisation are regulars Mitch Pileggi (who plays Walter Skinner), William B. Davis (Cigarette Smoking Man) and the Lone Gunmen themselves, Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund and Bruce Harwood.

The X-Files: Cold Cases comes out on the 18th of July and is available to pre-order now at www.audible.co.uk.

The X-Files is back again – sort of – as new spin-off reveals what happened BEFORE the revival series

Though it won't be on TV.

Look to the skies, people, The X-Files is returning once again, though not in the way you would expect.

It seems you may have to listen to the skies on this occasion, as David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will lend their voices as Mulder and Scully for a new audio spin-off on Audible.

The X-Files: Cold Cases will be set before the events of the recent revival series, providing more backstory on the events we saw.

The new series will also be set after 2008 movie I Want To Believe, revealing more as to why the pair were pulled out of reclusion.

The synopsis reads: "A database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved by the secret department once known as The X-Files.

"As friends and foes of the agency long-thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to tackle a growing conspiracy involving their former department, the US government and forces not of this world."
Cold Cases will have "creative direction" from X-Files creator Chris Carter, with the adaptation written by Dirk Maggs (The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy).

Also appearing are characters Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), 'The Cigarette Smoking Man' (William B Davis) and the 'Lone Gunmen' (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood).
You can pre-order the series now.

Meanwhile, it emerged earlier this year that The X-Files could be set for an 11th season on TV, though Fox is yet to commit to new episodes.

Hear Eerie 'X-Files' Audiobook Excerpt Featuring Gillian Anderson
New audiobook, 'X-Files: Cold Cases,' features Scully and Mulder solving new mysteries

The new audiobook, 'X-Files: Cold Cases,' find Mulder and Scully solving new mysteries. REX

By Kory Grow

A year after Fox revived The X-Files, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are once again stepping into the roles of Dana Scully and Fox Mulder for a new audiobook. X-Files: Cold Cases, an original production by Audible, presents brand-new stories for the pair, providing a backstory to the characters' lives between the movie The X-Files: I Want to Believe and last year's miniseries. It will come out on July 18th.

A clip from the recording, premiering at Rolling Stone, contains audio of Scully running, out of breath, while calling a medical service. A voice comes on the line, addressing her as "Dr. Blake," and she describes a group of people wearing hoods and robes who are chasing her. "They're chanting," she says. "I have a gunshot wound to my left arm, and I think the chanting is some kind of psychic attack." Scully explains who she is and asks for the receptionist to get her message to the FBI's Assistant Director Walter Skinner. At the end, she confronts the surprising, supernatural person who shot her and things get really strange.

The plot revolves around a database breach at the FBI, allowing a group to access unsolved X-files that have been dubbed "cold cases." As villains from the agents' past begin resurfacing, Mulder and Scully come out of hiding to challenge the conspiracy, which also involves the U.S. government and extraterrestrial forces.

Other characters in the story, voiced by their original actors, include Skinner, the "Cigarette-Smoking Man" and the Lone Gunmen.

The source material is graphic novels written by Joe Harris, with X-Files creator Chris Carter serving as producer and creative director. Dirk Maggs, whom Audible describes as an "aural auteur," adapted the story to the audio format; he previously worked on The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Alien: Out of the Shadows.

The audiobook is available for pre-order now.

After the sixth and final episode of the miniseries aired last year, ending with a cliffhanger, Carter vowed that the show would be back. "It's really a matter of when the actors would be able to do it, when they're available at the same time," he told The New York Times. "We'd also need a schedule that would give us enough lead time to make it interesting. Nothing's been written yet. I've written down a lot of ideas but there's nothing even close to a script."

The X Files will be back - as an audio drama

While confirmation is yet to emerge about an eleventh season of The X Files (negotiations continue but Fox are hopeful), here's a piece of news to tide you over. David Duchovny and Gillian will be reprising their roles as Mulder and Scully for a new audio drama for Audible

The X-Files: Cold Cases will be set between the 2008 movie The X-Files: I Want To Believe and the revival series from 2016, filling in some of the gaps before Mulder and Scully returned to The X Files. The audio will also feature Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), The Cigarette Smoking Man (William B Davis) and the 'Lone Gunmen' (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood).

Here's the synopsis.

The audio is written by Dirk Maggs, with creative direction from The X Files creator Chris Carter. The X-Files: Cold Cases will be released in July and you can pre-order the audio here.

‘The X-Files: Cold Cases’ Teaser: David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson Return For Audio Reprise

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are back to reprise their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in The X-Files: Cold Cases, Audible Original’s audio production.

The X-Files: Cold Cases is based on the graphic novels by Joe Harris, with creative direction from series creator Chris Carter, and adapted specifically for the audio format by Dirk Maggs (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Alien: Out of the Shadows).

Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files. Fox has been working on a new season of The X-Files, following the success of the six-episode 2016 revival, which was one of the best performing Fox series that season. No word yet on what that might happen.

Aubible Originals releases The X-Files: Cold Cases on July 18.

Check out the teaser above.

The X-Files returns with a brand new adventure starring Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny
The X-Files is back with Mulder and Scully in the new Audible drama, picking up where I Want To Believe left off

BY STACEY WILLIAMS

If, like us, you're eagerly awaiting confirmation of Season 11 of The X-Files , then maybe this news will tide you over - FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully are back!

Just... not on the big (or small) screen. Not quite yet.

David Duchovny , Gillian Anderson , and a whole host of series regulars are set to star in The X-Files: Cold Cases - a full cast audio drama coming our way in July.

With original series creator Chris Carter providing the creative direction and audio adaptation supremo Dirk Maggs (best-known for his adaptations of Douglas Adams’ Hitchiker’s Guide To The Galaxy and Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere) running the show, fans of the cult sci-fi hit are in for a treat.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny both return for the audiobook

Based on the graphic novels of Joe Harris, the series - set after I Want to Believe, but before the 2016 mini-series revival - will give fans an insight as to why Mulder and Scully appear back on the scene.

A database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved by the secret department once known as The X-Files.

As friends and foes start reappearing, former agents Mulder and Scully have to come out of anonymity to tackle a growing conspiracy involving their former department, the US government - and forces not of this world.

Mitch Pileggi returns with the X-Files duo

Sounds great, right? Well, it gets better...

Some of our favourite series regulars are set to join Mulder and Scully in this new tale of intrigue.

AD Walter Skinner ( Mitch Pileggi ) shall be making an appearance, along with everyone's favourite ambiguous villain, the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B Davis).

Of course, no new conspiracy would be complete without the 'Lone Gunmen' (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood).

The X-Files: Cold Cases is out on July 18, but is available to pre-order on Audible now.

David Duchovny And Gillian Anderson Officially Return To ‘The X-Files’ (Via An Audiobook)

ANDREW HUSBAND

Even since The X-Files revival ended on such a dour note last year, Fox has been teasing a second return. While many of these hints have suggested the second batch of new episodes would eclipse the first’s six in number, however, the show’s timetable remains in flux. Why? Because David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and Chris Carter — not to mention the rest of the show’s cast and crew — remain quite busy with various other projects.

Among them: The X-Files: Cold Cases, a new audiobook adventure announced by Audible that serves as a prequel of sorts to the recent revival:

Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.

Based on The X-Files graphic novel series penned by Joe Harris, who collaborated with Carter on Cold Cases, the new audiobook will feature “a mind-blowing and otherworldly soundscape of liquefying aliens, hissing creatures, and humming spacecraft, listeners get to experience the duo’s investigations like never before.” What’s more, Duchovny and Anderson will reprise the roles of FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively. Original series characters Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), The Cigarette-Smoking Man (William B. Davis), and the Lone Gunmen (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund and Bruce Harwood) will also appear in the new production.

Cold Cases won’t be available for download until July 18, though ardent X-Files fans out there can pre-order the audiobook here.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson voice ‘X-Files: Cold Cases’ reprise

Believe

by : Sarah Fox   April 10, 2017

The ‘X-Files’ franchise will be releasing a new Audible edition of the “X-Files: Cold Cases,” (Amazon for $17) and it will feature the voices of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. The new audio reprise will feature a full-cast dramatization, starring your favorite FBI agents; Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. The book is based on the graphic novels by Joe Harris, with creative direction from series creator Chris Carter. The new rendition was created specifically for the popular audio format, with Dirk Maggs (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Alien: Out of the Shadows).

Set after the events of “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files. The publisher describes the story stating, “As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.”

Joining Mulder and Scully’s in the story are Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi); the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis); and the Lone Gunmen (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood).

Earlier this week Audible, which is owned by Amazon, also released a new edition of “The Handmaid’s Tale”. The book was released in the special Audible-edition just before the new series launches on Hulu on April 26. The Special Edition of The Handmaid’s Tale was performed by Emmy Award-winning actress Claire Danes, and includes new, original material written by Margaret Atwood. You can watch a trailer for the Hulu adaptation launching this month here.

Mulder and Scully team up again for X-Files: Cold Cases
NIVEA SERRAO@NIVEASERRAO

POSTED ON APRIL 10, 2017 AT 12:15PM EDT

Get ready to believe (again), X-Files fans, because David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are once again reprising their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Only this time, the pair won’t be gracing any screens with their performances — just listeners’ ears.

Based on Joe Harris and Chris Carter’s graphic novels, X-Files: Cold Cases takes place before the recent revival, but after The X-Files: I Want to Believe, as Mulder and Scully team up to investigate a data breach at FBI headquarters that gives a mysterious group access to old X-Files investigations.

But Duchovny and Anderson aren’t the only ones reprising their iconic roles for Audible’s upcoming full-cast audio dramatization. As you can see in the trailer above, Mitch Pileggi will once again embody FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner, while William B. Davis will return to give the Cigarette Smoking Man his trademark mystique. Rounding out the cast are Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood as the Lone Gunmen, a trio of conspiracy theorists.

X-Files: Cold Cases will be available for purchase July 18. Preorder the audiobook here, and get a glimpse of the cover below.

April 10, 2017
by John Evans

Audible has released a teaser video for The X-Files: Cold Cases, a new audiobook series based on a graphic novel series written by Joe Harris. Series creator Chris Carter will provide creative direction for the project, and the series will feature the voices of franchise favorites David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, and more. You can watch the entire clip below:

Some fans will surely be thrilled to see some of their favorite faces in the clip, even if they’ll have to imagine them when listening to the final product! No worries, though, Fox remains committed to creating more episodes of The X-Files for their more visual fans out there; and we’ll be sure to deliver the scoop on that project as soon as it becomes available!

Here is an official synopsis for Cold Cases, provided by Audible:

“Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.”

The X-Files: Cold Cases will launch exclusively on Audible on July 18th, 2017. Stay tuned to Horror News Network for more information on Cold Cases and other The X-Files projects as it breaks!
