Teaser Video Released for The X-Files: Cold Cases

April 10, 2017
by John Evans

Audible has released a teaser video for The X-Files: Cold Cases, a new audiobook series based on a graphic novel series written by Joe Harris. Series creator Chris Carter will provide creative direction for the project, and the series will feature the voices of franchise favorites David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, and more. You can watch the entire clip below:

Some fans will surely be thrilled to see some of their favorite faces in the clip, even if they’ll have to imagine them when listening to the final product! No worries, though, Fox remains committed to creating more episodes of The X-Files for their more visual fans out there; and we’ll be sure to deliver the scoop on that project as soon as it becomes available!

Here is an official synopsis for Cold Cases, provided by Audible:

“Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.”

The X-Files: Cold Cases will launch exclusively on Audible on July 18th, 2017. Stay tuned to Horror News Network for more information on Cold Cases and other The X-Files projects as it breaks!

The X-Files: Cold Cases’ Trailer: Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny Are Back and Sound Better Than Ever
Mulder and Scully will be featured in an Audible Original production this July.

Hanh Nguyen

The truth is still out there, even if it means diving into the past to find it.

Audible Studios will release “The X-Files: Cold Cases,” an Audible Original production that will star the voice talents of Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny and a full cast, the studio announced Monday. Besides Agents Scully and Mulder, fans will also get to revisit old friends Walter Skinner (Mitch PIleggi), the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis), and the Lone Gunmen Melvin Frohike, Richard “Ringo” Langly and John Fitzgerald Byers (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund and Bruce Harwood).

“The X-Files: Cold Cases” is set between the events of the theatrical release “The X-Files: I Want to Believe” and 2016 limited series revival. In the audiobook, an FBI headquarters database breach allows an unknown party to access The X-Files’ cold cases. This means that a lot of old friends — and foes — are now coming out of the woodwork, necessitating that Agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to handle them. The adventure will center on a growing conspiracy that involves their secret department, the U.S. government and forces not of this world.

Watch the trailer for the production below:

The audio format will further highlight the chemistry between Mulder and Scully against the backdrop of a unique soundscape of “liquefying aliens, hissing creatures, and humming spacecraft,” according to the press release. Consider this an X-Files for audiophiles.

Series creator Chris Carter provided creative direction for the production, which is based upon the graphic novels by Joe Harris and adapted for the audio format by Dirk Maggs.

“The X-Files: Cold Cases” will be released exclusively on Audible on July 18. Pre-order is available at www.audible.com/xfiles.

The X-Files to continue in new Audible drama starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson

Adam Starkey for Metro.co.ukMonday 10 Apr 2017 5:35 pm

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are bringing the X-Files to audio (Picture: X Files)

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are set to reprise their roles of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in a new audio production of The X-Files.

Titled The X-Files: Cold Cases, the series is based on the graphic novels by Joe Harris and has been adapted specifically for audio by Dirk Maggs who’s previously worked on audio versions for The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy.

If you weren’t already psyched – there’s a below teaser trailer showing the faces of David and Gillian, before they’re swept into the audio realm.

Also set to appear in the audio dramatization are series regulars Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner), William B. Davis (Cigarette Smoking Man) alongside Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund and Bruce Harwood.

The official synopsis for the series reads: ‘Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want To Believe – providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival – a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved by the secret department once known as The X-Files.
‘As friends and foes of the agency long-thought gone begin to inexpicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to tackle a growing conspiracy involving their former department, the US government and forces not of this world.’

It might be a smart way to earn some good will after the 2016 miniseries failed to set the world alight, earning some pretty mixed reviews.

The X-Files: Cold Cases is due for release on July 18 and you can pre-order now here.

By E.C. Flamming   |  April 10, 2017  |  12:46pm
Image via Audible/YouTube

Audible Studios plans to release The X-Files: Cold Cases, an Audible original audio series, on July 18. Most notably, the production will feature original X-Files cast members David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as the beloved FBI agents Mulder and Scully. Honestly, what is X-Files without their sMuldering chemistry?

Cold Cases, based on the graphic novels by Joe Harris, picks up after the events of X-Files: I Want to Believe. According to an official press release, the new stories are as chock-full of conspiracies, humming spacecraft and liquefying aliens as the original X-Files. The synopsis reads:

A database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved—dubbed cold cases—by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the U.S. government and forces not of this world.

Not only will we enjoy Duchovny and Anderson’s unforgettable banter, but we will also see the return of series regulars like Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi), Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis) and the Lone Gunmen (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund and Bruce Harwood). Cold Cases will also feature a thrilling array of extraterrestrial sounds to give us the full X-Files experience. From hissing aliens to hovering UFOs, Cold Cases hopes to completely immerse the listener.

Mulder and Scully Are Returning in a Brand New X-Files Audio Book

Germain Lussier
10 minutes agoFiled to: X-FILES

Fans hoping for a little more Mulder and Scully to go along with the recent TV return are in luck. Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny lead a laundry list of X-Files cast members who are lending their voices to a brand new audio book.

The book is called X-Files: Cold Cases, and it’s based on graphic novels by Joe Harris and Chris Carter. Taking place after the last movie but before the new TV show, Cold Cases will also feature the voices of Mitch Pileggi as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner; William B. Davis as the Cigarette Smoking Man; Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood as the Lone Gunmen; and others.

So what’s it about? Here’s what the official press release has to say:

Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016's miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved - dubbed cold cases - by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.

The book comes to Audible on July 18 but is up for preorder now at this link. Here’s a brief teaser.

And here’s the “book cover.”

The X-Files cast is reuniting for a new audiobook

By Sam Barsanti @sambarsanti

Fox’s X-Files revival last year was pretty disappointing—save for an appearance from the Were-Monster—but it’s hard to deny that it’s still fun to see David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Hopefully it’s just as fun to hear them reprise those roles, because Audible Studios has just announced a new audiobook project called The X-Files: Cold Cases that will feature the voices of not only Duchovny and Anderson, but also Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner and William B. Davis as the Cigarette Smoking Man, plus Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood as the Lone Gunmen. Here’s a teaser, courtesy of Audible:

The audio drama will be based on the graphic novels by Joe Harris, and it takes place in between the X-Files: I Want To Believe movie and the recent TV revival. The plot concerns someone hacking into an FBI database and uncovering unsolved cases from the X-Files department, prompting key figures from the original series to step out of the shadows and dip back into the thrilling world of government conspiracies and alien invasions.

The X-Files: Cold Cases will be available on July 18. You can also preorder Cold Cases at this link.

VIDEO: David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson announce “The X-Files: Cold Cases” audiobook

Posted on April 10, 2017 by Mike Celestino

Over its nearly twenty-four-year history, “The X-Files” has existed in many forms. Obviously it started with the sleeper hit supernatural television series on the FOX network, but after that there were novels, comic books, video games, and even two theatrically-released feature films.

Now the ensemble cast (including David Duchovny as Fox Mulder, Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully, Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner, William B. Davis as the Cigarette-Smoking Man, and Tom Braidwood, Bruce Harwood, and Dean Haglund as The Lone Gunmen) is being reunited once again for an audiobook entitled “The X-Files: Cold Cases,” exclusively from Amazon’s Audible service.

The stories in “Cold Cases” are adapted from writer Joe Harris’s excellent “The X-Files” comic book series from IDW publishing, which he developed alongside creator Chris Carter. As a pretty big “X-Files” fan myself, I’ll say frankly that those comics did a far better job of continuing the series’ long-running mythology than the recent six-episode FOX television revival.

“The X-Files: Cold Cases” will be available starting Tuesday, July 18th from Audible.

The Truth Is Coming To Audible With New The X-Files Spin-off

April 10, 2017
Clare Sidoti

Credit: Audible

For over a year now we have been awaiting news on the fate of our favourite special agents, and it seems our prayers have been answered… well kind of.

After almost a decade since the second film, I Want To Believe, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returned to our screens early last year for a six-episode event series. While that series left us all with one hell of a cliffhanger and there have been numerous murmurings of a follow on season, nothing has been confirmed as yet. But finally fans will be getting some answers, just not to some of the questions we currently have.

Mulder and Scully are heading to Audible with a series of audio spin-offs. Duchovny and Anderson are returning, as is Mitch Pileggi (Skinner), William B. Davis (The Cigarette Smoking Man), and Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund and Bruce Harwood (The Lone Gunmen). However, the series is not picking up from the last season. No, it’s providing backstory on events between I Want To Believe and season 10.

The synopsis reads: “A database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved by the secret department once known as The X-Files.
“As friends and foes of the agency long-thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to tackle a growing conspiracy involving their former department, the US government and forces not of this world.”

The X-Files creator Chris Carter is on board to provide “creative direction”, with The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy’s Dirk Maggs writing the adaptation.

The series is available to pre-order and is scheduled for release on July 18 2017.

While it might not be what we were hoping for, any new Mulder and Scully adventure is cause for celebration. And at least, with an Audible production, we can still experience the joy that comes from “Sitting like a mindless clone… just to hear the breath of the man, the myth, the monotone” of Mr Duchovny.

The X-Files Cast Reuniting for Cold Cases Audio Production

By Timothy Lammers

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are reprising their iconic characters of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully for the new audio production The X-Files: Cold Cases for Audible Originals. The X-Files, of course, developed a massive following during its nine-season run on Fox from 1993 to 2002. The series – about a pair of FBI agents investigating claims of the paranormal – was so popular that it spawned the theatrical feature The X-Files in 1998 and paired Duchovny and Anderson for a second big screen investigation with The X-Files: I Want to Believe in 2008.

After a eight long years of no activity, Duchovny and Anderson reunited for a hit six-part  X-Files revival on Fox last year, giving fans hope that more cases were in the future for Mulder and Scully. Fans got the news that they were hoping for Monday, with the return of The X-Files… but in a much different way.

Audible announced in a video teaser (see above) that it will be releasing the audio production The X-Files: Cold Cases July 18. The company says Cold Cases is based on the The X-Files graphic novels by Joe Harris, and is set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and prior to the events of The X-Files revival in 2016. Audible says the audio production is being directed by X-Files creator Chris Carter and will feature “mind-blowing and otherworldly soundscape of liquefying aliens, hissing creatures, and humming spacecraft, listeners get to experience the duo’s investigations like never before.” You can check out the Cold Cases cover art, below:

Duchovny and Anderson are featured in the teaser video, as well as Mitch Pileggi and William B. Davis, who are reprising Walter Skinner and Cigarette Smoking Man, respectively, for the production. Also lending their voices to Cold Cases are Tom Braidwood, Bruce Harwood and Dean Haglund, who played the quirky conspiracy theorists that made up the trio of The Lone Gunmen in The X-Files series. In its summary of Cold Cases, Audible says:

“Providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.”

While it may not be the exact type of announcement fans of The X-Files were hoping for, there are a lot of reasons to be excited for Cold Cases. For one, it signals that Duchovny and Anderson are still very much interested in The X-Files, meaning a follow-up to the revival will happen – it’s just a matter of when. Besides, an audio format seems to be a natural for The X-Files, and a throwback to radio-type serials from yesteryear will be a unique and exciting inclusion in The X-Files universe. The truth is still out there – except this time, you’ll have to listen for it.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson Reunite for X-FILES Audiobook

Posted by Blair Marnell on April 10, 2017

Last year, Fox brought back The X-Files for a six-episode run that left fans on a big cliffhanger with no resolution in sight. And while we’re still waiting for word about a fresh order of new episodes, series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are already set to reprise their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in The X-Files: Cold Cases, a new audio drama from Audible.

The X-Files: Cold Cases is based on The X-Files: Season 10 comic book series by writer Joe Harris and artist Michael Walsh. That comic was produced before Fox commissioned the revival series, so it is out-of-continuity with the television show despite input from X-Files creator Chris Carter. For the new audio version, Dirk Maggs (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) adapted Harris and Walsh’s initial storyline, which finds Mulder and Scully forced out of hiding when their former associates are targeted by an enigmatic group.

In a newly released video from Audible, Duchovny and Anderson teased their returns, but they aren’t the only cast members coming back. Mitch Pileggi will once again play Walter Skinner, alongside William B. Davis as the Cigarette Smoking Man, and Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood, and Dean Haglund reprising their roles as the Lone Gunmen.

If Audible continues to adapt the comic book storyline beyond the initial Cold Cases, then several other X-Files characters could potentially return as well. It’s an exciting possibility for fans of the series, and we’d love to see that happen!

Audible will release The X-Files: Cold Cases on July 18.

An upcoming X-Files audiobook reunites David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and more

by Megan Farokhmanesh @Megan_Nicolett Apr 10, 2017, 3:02pm EDT

The cult classic TV series The X-Files will continue to extend its lifespan with a new audiobook. Audible announced today that it will release The X-Files: Cold Cases on July 18th, with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles on the show by reading their lines in the audio version. The book is based on Joe Harris’ graphic novels.

Cold Cases takes place after the 2008 film The X-Files: I Want to Believe and acts as a backstory fill-in for the 2016 TV miniseries revival. After a data breach at FBI headquarters, unknown forces start digging into The X-Files’ unsolved investigations, otherwise known as cold cases. “As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world,” the book’s description reads.

The original X-Files, which launched in 1993, followed Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as they investigated unsolved cases rooted in the paranormal. The X-Files: Cold Cases will feature other actors from the show reprising their roles, including Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner), William B. Davis (the Cigarette Smoking Man), and conspiracy theorist trio Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood (the Lone Gunmen).

The book follows a long tradition of Mulder and Scully-starring films and books of the audio, comic, and novel variety. Few things beat the sweet, sweet sounds of Duchovny and Anderson’s in-character flirting, but there’s a real dark horse in this race: Audible promises a soundscape full of “liquefying aliens, hissing creatures, and humming spacecraft,” to really lock in the experience.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson Return for The X-Files: Cold Cases from Audible

Posted on April 10, 2017 by Debi Moore

On July 18th Audible Studios will release The X-Files: Cold Cases, an Audible Original production starring David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, and a full cast, including rich sound design and music that returns fans to the universe they’ve come to know and love with original material in an entirely new medium.

Pre-orders are available now from audible.com/xfiles, and we have more details below, including a trailer. Join the conversation: #istillwanttobelieve.

From the Press Release:

The series that had a generation looking to the sky gets a breathtaking audio reprise in an original full-cast dramatization featuring actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning to voice FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

Based upon the graphic novels by Joe Harris – with creative direction from series creator Chris Carter – and adapted specifically for the audio format by aural auteur Dirk Maggs (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Alien: Out of the Shadows), Cold Cases marks yet another thrilling addition to the pantheon of X-Files stories. Featuring a mind-blowing and otherworldly soundscape of liquefying aliens, hissing creatures, and humming spacecraft, listeners get to experience the duo’s investigations like never before.

Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed “cold cases” – by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.

Here, fans are treated once again to Mulder and Scully’s irreplicable chemistry as only the series’ leads could deliver, Duchovny’s deadpan and cynical aloofness finding its natural counterpoint in Anderson’s unwavering intelligence and rigidity. Appearances from series regulars and the actors who made them fan favorites round out this must-listen arc: the gruff, no-BS righteousness of Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi); the distinctive click-puff of the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis); and the stooge-like hijinks of three beloved conspiracy theorists called the Lone Gunmen (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood).

Whether you’re a believer or a skeptic, find your “I Want to Believe” poster. Break out that makeshift alien stiletto. Grab a pack of Morley cigarettes.

The truth is out there. You just have to listen.

Mulder & Scully to return in the audio book X-Files: Cold Cases

by: Steve Seigh

While Fox tries to figure out the best way to present yet another season of their supernatural and science-fiction-heavy smash series, X-FILES, actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson have plans to reprise their roles as agents Mulder and Scully for a brand-new audio book.

The book is entitled X-Files: Cold Cases, and will be based on the graphic novels presented by Joe Harris and Chris Carter. The story will take place before the recent revival, but after the events of X-FILES: I WANT TO BELIEVE, as Mulder and Scully join forces to investigate a data breach at FBI headquarters which then provides a shadowy group with access to the old X-Files investigations information.

What makes this project even cooler, is that in addition to Duchovny and Anderson reprising their roles for the forthcoming Audible book release, Mitch Pileggi will once again step into the role of FBI Assistant DDirector Walter Skinner, while William B. Davis is also set to return to his puzzling Cigarette Smoking Man character for the audio book release. Also on board for the project are actors Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood as the Lone Gunmen, a trio of conspiracy theorists.

X:Files Cold Cases will be available for purchase as of July 18, 2017. While you're waiting for the book, and polishing up the lens of your trusty telescope pointed toward the sky, why not shift your gaze toward the cover for X-Files Cold Cases, which you can see below:

The X-Files: Cold Cases Audiobook Reunites David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson

By Evan Campbell

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are reprising their roles of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, respectively, for an X-Files audiobook.

Audible has announced The X-Files: Cold Cases, an audiobook set after the I Want to Believe film and a precursor to the Season 10 mini-series. Duchovny and Anderson will provide their voices, along with other returning cast members from the TV series.

Mitch Pileggi is returning as Walter Skinner, while William B. Davis is coming back as the Cigarette Smoking Man. The Lone Gunmen will also pop up again, voiced by Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund and Bruce Harwood.

On top of the audiobook, FOX is also looking to bring back Mulder and Scully for more X-Files episodes in the future. For more on the most recent season in 2016, check out IGN's review of The X-Files: Season 10.

The X-Files: Cold Cases will arrive July 18 on Audible, where it's currently available for pre-order.

Hear an Excerpt From a New X-Files Audiobook Featuring Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny

Winston Cook-Wilson // April 10, 2017

CREDIT: The X-Files/FOX Facebook

Last year’s reboot of The X-Files was more or less a creative disaster. However, creator Chris Carter was undeterred by the reviews; in an interview, he assured The New York Times that “I can tell you, almost without a doubt, we will come back.” After all, the ratings were good.

Carter has remained consistently committed to The X-Files franchise since the show premiered in 1993. Following the last X-Files release prior to last year’s reboot–the 2008 film The X-Files: I Want to Believe–he oversaw a couple of series of X-Files comic books by the writer Joe Harris which were released in 2013 and 2015. These series take place in the time period between I Want to Believe and the show’s actual tenth season of last year, and are the inspiration for a new X-Files audiobook, produced by Carter and starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson as voice actors. It’s being released on July 18 via Audible; you can pre-order it now.

The audiobook, The X-Files: Cold Cases, is described by Audible as “a mind-blowing and otherworldly soundscape of liquefying aliens, hissing creatures, and humming spacecraft, listeners get to experience the duo’s investigations like never before.” The description of events seems like the same basic elevator pitch for the past few X-Files seasons and films: Mulder and Scully reunite to work together when a new crisis and apparent government conspiracy forces them to return to use their old alien-hunting skill set once again.

Audible has released an action-packed two-and-a-half-minute excerpt from the audiobook, and it sounds very ridiculous and funny. A breathless Scully is being chased by a mysterious group of chanting people in hoods, and you can hear them in the background as she calls for backup. Listen via Rolling Stone, and check out the cover art below.

David Duchovny And Gillian Anderson Are Returning For More X-Files, But Not How We Expected

By Laura Hurley

The X-Files was one of the most talked-about series of the 1990s, and Agents Mulder and Scully have since become television icons. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprised their legendary roles for a Season 10 in 2016, and fans have been waiting ever since for news of a Season 11. Now, we have confirmation that the two actors will be returning to Mulder and Scully at least once more, but not how we expected. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will lend their voices to an audio book that will be released later this year.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will play Mulder and Scully in the upcoming Audible drama The X-Files: Cold Cases. The plot will be based on the comic series released after the end of the original run of the series, called The X-Files: Season 10. The comic series is no longer canon with continuity due to the events of the 2016 revival series, but it should still be a fun listen for fans who have been dying for more material from the dynamic duo.

The comic series was crafted by Joe Harris as writer and Michael Walsh as artist. The X-Files creator Chris Carter weighed in on Cold Cases, according to Nerdist, so even its displacement from The X-Files continuity doesn't mean that it won't feel like old school X. The story has been adapted from the original comic by author Dirk Maggs, and it will follow Mulder and Scully as they are forced out of hiding when their pals from their former lives are pursued by a mysterious crew.

There's no saying at this point how many liberties from the original comic stories and/or characters will be taken with the audio book. Audible did release a video teasing David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson's involvement with The X-Files: Cold Cases, in addition to some other returning cast members. Take a look:

Mitch Pileggi will evidently reprise his role as Assistant Director Walter Skinner, which isn't too huge of a surprise. Skinner was still alive and well as of the Season 9 finale, and he's the person who Mulder and Scully would most logically keep in touch with. William B. Davis' return as the Cigarette Smoking Man is a bit more puzzling, as he was last seen in Season 9 being killed by a huge explosion. As for Bruce Harwood, Tom Braidwood, and Dean Haglund... well, the Lone Gunmen already appeared once to Mulder after their deaths. That could easily happen again.

We'll have and wait and find out for ourselves. The X-Files: Cold Cases will be released by Audible on July 18. Hopefully the book does well enough that it's only the first adaptation of an X-Files project. After all, we haven't heard too much lately about the prospect of a Season 11 on the small screen. While Fox and David Duchovny seemed all for working out a deal for more episodes, Gillian Anderson wasn't sure if she could make it work. I want to believe that there will be another season - not least because of that painful cliffhanger - but we can only hope at this point.

Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for the latest in The X-Files news, and don't forget to check out our midseason TV premiere guide and our summer TV premiere schedule to discover all your viewing options now and in the coming months.

Things We Saw Today: The X-Files Are Back (But Not in the Way You Might Think)

by Keisha Hatchett | 5:39 pm, April 10th, 2017

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny are set to reprise their roles as Dana Mulder and Fox Scully, just not on television. The beloved duo is lending their voices to a new audiobook titled X-Files: Cold Cases, based on the graphic novels by Joe Harris and Chris Carter.

Set after the last movie but just before the 2016 TV revival, the book will offer up some more backstory into why the agents have re-emerged after going into seclusion. After an unknown group gains access to unsolved investigations by the X-Files during a data breach at FBI quarters, the two are forced to take on a major conspiracy that involved not only their former department, but the U.S. government and forces unknown to this world as well.

The book is slated to hit Audible on July 18 and also features voices from Mitch Pileggi, William B. Davis, Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood. (via Gizmodo)
