New ‘X-Files’ Reunion Will Shock Longtime Fans

By Dave Taylor • 9 hours ago

Scully and Mulder will be back this summer... but in a format few fans might expect.

This might be the most surprising, and welcome, reunion in recent memory.

It’s been more than 20 years since the ground-breaking cult hit “The X Files” aired on Fox. It enjoyed a nine season run, from Sept. 1993 to May 2002. The episodic show revolved around the investigations of FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson)..

The six-episode ‘X-Files’ season 10 brought the show back for ecstatic fans.

Fans remember that in addition to the crime of the week, there was also an overarching conspiracy that involved aliens invading the Earth and masquerading as humans. Were they really here? Who would believe their findings if they did get incontrovertible proof of the aliens? And who was “Smoking Man” (William B. Davis), who always seemed to be on the fringe of the more complicated story lines?

Fourteen years after the show ended, a tenth season aired on Fox to a lukewarm reception by fans. That doesn’t include two feature films tied to the series. “The X Files” arrived in 1998, during the height of the show’s popularity. “The X Files: I Want To Believe,” which proved a box office disappointment, debuted in 2008.

Are we done with “The X-Files?” Hardly!

Fans are still fascinated by the bigger conspiracy underlying the entire show. They hope that long-simmering romantic spark between Scully and Mulder will burst into flames.

Which is why Audible Studios is going to find great success with its upcoming July 18 release of “The X Files: Cold Cases.”

The truth is still out there thanks to a new Audible Studios original.

The Audible Original production stars Duchovny, Anderson and the rest of the original TV cast.

Based on the “X-Files” graphic novels by Joe Harris and with creative direction from show creator Chris Carter, “Cold Cases” will represent a whole new story area for fans.

It’s set in the era between when the last episode of the show and the first episode of the 2016 revival miniseries.

“Cold Cases” will explain what brought Mulder and Scully out of reclusion.

We hear that it’ll involve an unknown group hacking into the FBI database to access and capitalize on the unsolved investigations of the X Files group. Expect a full soundtrack with sound effects and original music, too.

It’s called ‘X-Files: Cold Cases,’ and the first clip will creep you out.

Grab your headphones, The X-Files fans, because Audible Studios is releasing an X-Files audiobook starring the original cast! In addition to bringing back Gillian Anderson as the skeptical Agent Dana Scully and David Duchovny as true believer Agent Fox Mulder, X-Files: Cold Cases also beings back Mitch Pileggi as Walter Skinner and William B. Davis as the Smoking Man, plus Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood as the Lone Gunmen.

Yes, it’s true! Here’s a brief description via Audible:

Cold Cases marks yet another thrilling addition to the pantheon of X-Files stories. Featuring a mind-blowing and otherworldly soundscape of liquefying aliens, hissing creatures, and humming spacecraft, listeners get to experience the duo’s investigations like never before.

Liquefying aliens? Holy UFO’s that sounds amazing.
The audio series will pick up where the 2008 film, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, left off, but take place before the events of the 2016 miniseries revival.

Watch the Official Teaser for X-Files: Cold Cases here:

Here’s the actual plot, according to the Audible website:

A database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.

Audible will release X-Files: Cold Cases on July 18th, but if you want to have a listen right now, Rolling Stone has an exclusive and super-creepy X-Files: Cold Cases excerpt available to creep you out immediately.

Pre-orders of X-Files: Cold Cases are available now via Audible.

The truth is still out there, y’all!

The X-Files Is Becoming an Audiobook

Shaunacy Ferro

The adventures of Mulder and Scully might never end. The X-Files is getting yet another revival—this one, in audio form. The groundbreaking television series is set to become an exclusive audiobook from Audible.com, dramatizing a series of graphic novels by writer Joe Harris.

The X-Files: Cold Cases is, essentially, a reboot of the cult classic series in podcast form. The full cast is doing the narration—not just David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, but favorites like Mitch Pileggi (Skinner) and William B. Davis (Cigarette Smoking Man) too—and there will be plenty of paranormal sounds to spook your ears.

According to Audible, the story takes place just after the events portrayed in The X-Files: I Want to Believe (the largely unpopular 2008 movie) and before the plot of the 2016 miniseries. The audiobook begins with a data breach that allows some unknown group to access unsolved X-Files cases from the FBI. “As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world,” according to the press release.

The X-Files is a trendy story to revisit these days. In addition to the 2016 miniseries reboot, it was recently turned into a pair of young adult novels as well as a children’s book. The X-Files: Cold Cases will be available for $25 from Audible on July 18, 2017.

X-Files cast reuniting for new Audible audio drama

Carol Pinchefsky
Mon, Apr 10, 2017 10:55pm

X-Philes can never get enough of their favorite conspiracy theory series, The X-Files -- not even after two movies, multiple comic books, a short story collection, and a limited series in 2016. So what’s next for fans, who are still wondering if The Truth Is Out There? An audio drama!

Not just any audio drama, but one starring some familiar voices. In X-Files: Cold Cases, David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will return as the stars of the show; Mitch Pileggi and Willliam B. Davis will provide ample aide and/or menace; and Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood will sound off as the geek chorus.

The X-Files: Cold Cases will be based on Joe Harris’ X-Files comics, although Audible has not said which one; Harris has written several series, including X-Files Season 10 and X-Files Season 11.

According to Audible, the new story is...

"Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016's miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved -- dubbed cold cases -- by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the U.S. government and forces not of this world."

Audio dramas are some of the best entertainment you can get, as fans of Big Finish Productions will tell you. You get the feel of the series you know and love, and your imagination fills in the gaps. Even better: X-Files: Cold Cases will be produced by Dirk Maggs, whose credits include radio dramas of Batman, Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere, Judge Dredd, and later seasons of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

As Audible says, “The truth is out there. You just have to listen.”

I hear that.

The X-Files: Cold Cases will be released on July 18, 2017.

X-Philes, Get Excited About This New Audiobook

The last time we saw Mulder and Scully, things looked decidedly bleak for everyone’s favorite believer. Chris Carter has vowed the show will return to the small screen (and I’m going to hold him to his word after that cliffhanger finale), but fans are likely in for a long wait. Aside from rewatching old episodes on Netflix, what are we to do until then? Luckily, a new X-Files audiobook will be released on July 18 and it’s already available for preorder.

X-Files: Cold Cases, an original production by Audible, takes place sometime in between the 2008 film The X-Files: I Want to Believe and last year’s six-episode revival. David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will lend their voices, and other key characters including Skinner, the "Cigarette-Smoking Man,” and the Lone Gunmen will also be voiced by their original actors.

Rolling Stone has premiered an exclusive clip, in which Scully can be heard calling a medical service as she describes being chased by a group of people who are wearing robes and chanting.
"I have a gunshot wound to my left arm, and I think the chanting is some kind of psychic attack,” Scully tells the receptionist, before asking that her message be sent to Assistant Director Skinner immediately.

There are a lot of strange moments in the brief clip (what else would you expect from The X-Files?), but one intriguing moment is Scully’s declaration that someone named Emily shot her.

X-Files devotees will remember that Scully had a daughter named Emily who died in Season 5. No one ever really dies on this show, so it possible she’ll return for the audiobook?

The clip concludes with a seriously creepy male voice ordering Scully to “come with us.” Cut to the theme music we all know and love.
So, while fans wait for assurance that Mulder has survived and William has been located, at least we’ll be able to get our eerie X-Files fix in a new way.

X-Files Cast Reuniting For New Project

Russ Burlingame- 04/10/2017

Dirk Maggs, the producer of popular and acclaimed audio dramas like The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Superman: Doomsday and Beyond, is bringing several cast members from The X-Files together in a new production, The X-Files: Cold Cases, for Audible.

Based on The X-Files: Season 10 comics from IDW Publishing and writer Joe Harris, which were released before FOX actually made a season 10, the episodes will feature the voices of David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson, Mitch Pileggi, Willliam B. Davis, Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, Bruce Harwood as Fox Mulder, Dana Scully, Deputy Director Walter Skinner, The Cigarette-Smoking Man, and The Lone Gunmen, respectively.

"Some folks gave us shit for bringing back the old 'dead' X-Files characters in the comics," Harris tweeted. "Imagine if we didn't now?"

At the time of their publication, the Season 10 comics were considered canon. With much of the comics' content being retold in a different way during the show's actual tenth season, there's an element of alternate-universe storytelling that now feels like it's at play.

You can check out the official teaser above and the full description, provided by Audible, below.

The series that had a generation looking to the sky gets a breathtaking audio reprise in an original full-cast dramatization featuring actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning to voice FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

Based upon the graphic novels by Joe Harris - with creative direction from series creator Chris Carter - and adapted specifically for the audio format by aural auteur Dirk Maggs (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Alien: Out of the Shadows), Cold Cases marks yet another thrilling addition to the pantheon of X-Files stories. Featuring a mind-blowing and otherworldly soundscape of liquefying aliens, hissing creatures, and humming spacecraft, listeners get to experience the duo's investigations like never before.

Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016's miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved - dubbed cold cases - by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.

Here, fans are treated once again to Mulder and Scully's irreplicable chemistry as only the series' leads could deliver, Duchovny's deadpan and cynical aloofness finding its natural counterpoint in Anderson's unwavering intelligence and rigidity. Appearances from series regulars and the actors who made them fan favorites round out this must-listen arc: the gruff, no-BS righteousness of Walter Skinner (Mitch Pileggi); the distinctive click-puff of the Cigarette Smoking Man (William B. Davis); and the stooge-like hijinks of three beloved conspiracy theorists called the Lone Gunmen (Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood).

Whether you're a believer or a skeptic, find your "I Want to Believe" poster. Break out that makeshift alien stiletto. Grab a pack of Morley cigarettes.

The truth is out there. You just have to listen.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson return for The X-Files audiobook

11th Apr 17

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are returning to The X-Files universe for a new audiobook.

The stars will reprise their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in The X-Files: Cold Cases, and Audible Original project based on Joe Harris' graphic novels. The X-Files creator Chris Carter will serve as producer and creative director on the project.

The storyline will take place between the 2008 movie The X-Files: I Want to Believe and 2016's six-episode mini-series. It will detail why the special agents returned to their old jobs at America's Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The audiobook will be released on 18 July (17).

Meanwhile, Fox Entertainment executives are keen to bring agents Mulder and Scully back for another TV run and are planning a new season of the show.

"We would obviously love to do another season," studio president David Madden said in August (16). "There are significant talks going on with all three of the principals. Schedules are hard, but we're working hard to get this done and we would love to get another season out."

Season 10 of The X-Files hit TV screens 14 years after the sci-fi drama ended, and critics were mixed on Scully and Mulder's latest spooky adventures.

Dana Walden, the chairman and CEO of Fox Television Group, added, "The show was off the air for a very long time and was introduced to a variety of new viewers through a variety of platforms. Notwithstanding that, there was still a lot of time to cover in the six episodes, so they had the challenge of filling in the mythology and explaining where the characters were and how they got to where they are at the start of the six episodes.

"I think going forward there won't be the same obligation to reset the series, but I would tell you that on the social platforms, the chatter is overwhelmingly positive and the fans want more episodes. I did read some negative reviews and I also saw some glowing reviews. Like with most shows, I thought it was very mixed."

Teaser for the X-Files Cold Cases Audio Dramatization With David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson

While we wait for a new season of The X-Files to move forward, hardcore fans can enjoy an audio dramatization from Audible called The X-Files: Cold Cases. What's so cool about this is that this is a full cast dramatization that includes David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles of FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully along with several other members of the original cast.

The X-Files: Cold Cases is based on the comic books by Joe Harris, which had creative direction from series creator Chris Carter. We've got a promo teaser for the audio series that you can check out below.

Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files. As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.

The audio version of The X-Files: Cold Cases was produced by Dirk Maggs (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Alien: Out of the Shadows). As a longtime fan of The X-Files, I'll definitely be listening to this.

Aubible Originals releases The X-Files: Cold Cases on July 18th.

David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are back to reprise their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully in The X-Files: Cold Cases, Audible Original’s audio production.

The X-Files: Cold Cases is based on the graphic novels by Joe Harris, with creative direction from series creator Chris Carter, and adapted specifically for the audio format by Dirk Maggs (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Alien: Out of the Shadows).

Fox has been working on a new season of The X-Files, following the success of the six-episode 2016 revival, which was one of the best performing Fox series that season. No word yet on what that might happen.

Aubible Originals releases The X-Files: Cold Cases on July 18.

William B. Davis and Mitch Pileggi will appear in the audio drama too.

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny have reunited for a new X-Files audio drama series.

Titled The X-Files: Cold Cases, the audio drama is based on a series of X-Files comic books by graphic novelist Joe Harris.

Fellow cast members William B. Davis (Cigarette Smoking Man), Mitch Pileggi (Walter Skinner), and Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood (The Lone Gunmen) have all contributed too.

Meanwhile, The X-Files‘ creator Chris Carter has supplied creative direction. Watch a teaser for the audio drama below.

Some folks gave us shit for bringing back the old "dead" X-FILES characters in the comics. Imagine if we didn't now? https://t.co/Xd7bMcwRKf

— Joe Harris (@joeharris) April 10, 2017

The audio drama’s plot synopsis teases: “Set after the events of The X-Files: I Want to Believe and providing additional backstory to the incidents that pulled Mulder and Scully out of reclusion prior to 2016’s miniseries revival, a database breach at FBI headquarters allows an unknown group to access and capitalize on those investigations left unsolved – dubbed cold cases – by the secret department once known as The X-Files.

“As friends and foes of the agency long thought gone begin to inexplicably reappear, former agents Mulder and Scully come out of anonymity to face a growing conspiracy that involves not only their former department but the US government and forces not of this world.”

The X-Files: Cold Cases will be released on July 18.

Duchovny and Anderson last played Mulder and Scully in a six-episode revival series that aired on Fox last year. It marked the show’s return to TV after a 14-year hiatus.

Fox has said it is negotiating with Carter, Duchovny and Anderson to bring back the show for another revival series in late 2018 or early 2019.

THE X-FILES: COLD CASES Audio Dramatization to Feature Voices of David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson & More

4/10/17 1:37 PM by Derek Anderson

If you still believe and you're looking for something to listen to on your ride to work, then you're in luck, because Amazon's Audible Studios is bringing the cast of The X-Files back together for The X-Files: Cold Cases, an audio dramatization based on Joe Harris' graphic novels.

Scheduled to come out on July 18th, The X-Files: Cold Cases takes place in between The X-Files: I Want to Believe and the recent event series revival. Below, we have official details with more information as well as a teaser video featuring plenty of familiar faces from the seminal TV series. To learn more, visit Audible Studios.

From Audible Studios: "The series that had a generation looking to the sky gets a breathtaking audio reprise in an original full-cast dramatization featuring actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning to voice FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

You just have to listen."

DAVID DUCHOVNY AND GILLIAN ANDERSON RETURN IN NEW X-FILES AUDIOBOOK

AMANDA KAY OAKS
04-11-17

X-Files fans, get your muppet arms ready: you’re getting a new audiobook! Bonus: it features the voices of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, aka Mulder and Scully. Plus, the cover looks perfectly mysterious and a little bit sinister.

Several cast members in addition to Duchovny and Anderson are set to lend their voices to the new audiobook. To name a few, Mitch Pileggi (FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner), William B. Davis (the Cigarette Smoking Man), Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood are set to return, according to Gizmodo.

The audiobook will be based on the graphic novels by Joe Harris and Chris Carter. Timeline-wise, Cold Cases will fall between the last movie and the 2016 TV revival.

According to Audible, The X-Files: Cold Cases will provide additional back story as to why Mulder and Scully jumped back into action. The book promises that “friends and foes of the agency long thought gone” will “begin to inexplicably reappear,” assuring loads of nostalgia for fans of the series.

X-Files: Cold Cases  comes to Audible on July 18, but you can preorder it now. So grab your old fan gear and a pair of earbuds to get ready to return, once again, to The X-Files universe.

The X-Files Is Coming Back Again—Just Not on TV

After last year’s revival, Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny found another way to keep the show alive.

Thhe X-Files is coming back—again—in the most 2017 way possible. No, no, not a TV revival; that’s been done, and it wasn’t exactly the flawless Dana Scully-Fox Mulder comeback everyone wanted to believe it would be. Though Fox got a ratings jolt from the special six-episode revival, it didn’t deliver the same delicious mystery fans got from the original series. But now, loyal X-Files fans are getting a new chance to revisit the franchise, complete with a reunion of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson.

Audible is releasing a new audiobook titled The X-Files: Cold Cases, based on the graphic novel by Joe Harris, complete with Duchovny and Anderson reprising their roles as Mulder and Scully. Based on events that took place after the first X-Files movie, The X-Files: I Want to Believe, but before the 2016 revival, the story dives back into unsolved cold cases that have resurfaced after an FBI security breach. As a result, Mulder and Scully are pulled back into the fray, forced to help solve the looming conspiracy.

X-Files creator Chris Carter will executive produce the audiobook. Duchovny and Anderson will be joined by fellow former cast members Mitch Pileggi, who plays bespectacled FBI assistant director Walter Skinner, William B. Davis who plays the antagonistic Cigarette Smoking Man, and Tom Braidwood, Dean Haglund, and Bruce Harwood, who play obsessive conspiracy theorist trio the Lone Gunmen.

Considering The X-Files has already spawned two movies and a reboot, branching off into an audiobook is the next best way to give fans still yearning for more a fresh take. What is an audiobook if not the elevated older sibling of the podcast, a format that has also undergone a renaissance in recent years? Audible has released a snippet of the upcoming audiobook, featuring Anderson reprising her role as Scully, calling for help as she runs away from a group of people in hoods and robes who chant as they chase after her. At one point, she addresses a girl named Emily, a character name that’ll sound the alarm for long time X-Files fans.

The X-Files: Cold Cases will be released on July 18, and is available for pre-order now.
