'The X-Files' Season 11 Predictions SPOILERS: David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson Set To Direct New Mulder & Scully Episodes?

Will David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson direct any of the 10 new episodes of "The X-Files" Season 11?

9:13 AM EDT 4/24/2017 by Anya Bell, Celebeat Reporter

Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny of "The X-Files"

It's finally happening. "The X-Files" has been renewed for yet another season with Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, so fans can look forward to the return to the series soon. But what can people look forward to in the ten new episodes of the Fox show? There are speculations that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will go beyond playing the FBI agents in "The X-Files" Season 11. Could the "Twin Peaks" revival star and the "American Gods" actress also direct some of the episodes?

CeleBeat has previously reported that an announcement about "The X-Files" Season 11 could be made soon since the first 10 seasons of the series will be removed from Netflix. It certainly looks like Fox didn't waste any time in confirming the show's renewal. The follow-up to last year's revival is expected to be a part of the network's 2017-2018 roster so there is a possibility that it will premiere by early next year, as per The Hollywood Reporter. So is it possible that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson will do more than just play Mulder and Scully in the 11th season? Will they also direct some of the new episodes of the series?

The possibility of David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson taking on the director's chair is not a new thing. After all, the star of the "Twin Peaks" revival has helmed three episodes in the past ("The Unnatural" from Season 6, "Hollywood A.D" from Season 7 and "William" in Season 9). Meanwhile, Anderson directed the episode "all things" from the seventh season. Is there any possibility that the real Mulder and Scully will direct one of the 10 new episodes of "The X-Files" Season 11?

Gillian Anderson might be too busy to direct new episodes since she still has to work on "American Gods" and "The Fall". However, there is a possibility that David Duchovny might take on the job in "The X-Files" Season 11. Keep checking CeleBeat for more updates on your favorite shows.

X-Files Season 11: Production Begins This Summer

Marija April 25, 2017

It seems that X-Files will be back on Fox for Season 11. The sequel with ten episodes of this sci-fi drama is supposed to be broadcasted at some time this year or early 2018. Fox gave the statement, and now fans of this show are anxious to see the adventures that FBI agents Fox Mulder (played by David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (played by Gillian Anderson) will embark on. The wait won’t be long since the production is supposed to start this summer.

The famous TV show was created by Chris Carter, and it had nine whole seasons from 1993 to 2002 with approximately 202 episodes during that time. It won 16 Emmy awards. The popularity of the show was what forced the company to bring the very much awaited Season 10 made of six episodes last year. Also, two movies have been made based on this classic. As for the new season, Fox still hasn’t disclosed any storyline details, but at least it has been affirmed that the lead roles will again be both Anderson and Duchovny.

Source: variety.com

X-Files will continue to be investigated by Mulder and Scully. Those are the cases that usually entail paranormal events and stay unresolved until they take them. The two actors seem to be thrilled about the come-back as they are publishing jolly pictures on their Twitter. One of Anderson’s recent tweets to Duchovny said: “You ready for more of this?” and his response was: “Oh yes, been ready since ’93.”

Fox president David Madden said about the show: “Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators, these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide.” He also added, “Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”

It seems that Carter foretold this renewal in 2016, in his interview with the New York Times: “I can tell you, almost without a doubt, we will come back.” Of course, he was correct, and the fans are delighted.

‘The X-Files’ Begins Casting on Second Revival

Stay in the loop on industry and casting news with our write-up on who’s been slated for recent film and television roles!

“The X-Files”

Government cover-ups and bright lights in the sky proved to be a ratings boom for Fox in 2016, so it comes as no surprise that the ’90s property landed a second revival run. What’s been dubbed Season 11—counting each abbreviated season of the original nine—will pick up where the previous nostalgia binge left off. The next outing for Mulder and Scully, still being led by series stars Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny, will find the duo fighting off an impending viral genocide, dealing with the arrival of some little green men, and possibly even finding their long-lost son, William. While only a few solid details are available for the 10-episode event, it is rumored that previous and original series casting director Rick Millikan is back on board, along with series creator Chris Carter. Filming is anticipated to begin around August in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Vince Gilligan Says X-Files Season 11 Reunion Doubtful

If his busy schedule allows, Vince Gilligan wouldn't rule out an X-Files reunion, but don't hold your breath.

Chris Longo
Daniel Kurland
Apr 25, 2017

In an exclusive interview with Den of Geek on his current series, Better Call Saul, the timing just so happened to work out that we were the first people to ring up Vince Gilligan after The X-Files season 11 was announced. Gilligan holds a deep admiration for the series that kicked off his career, but as one of the busiest creators in Hollywood, he doesn’t want to get fans' hopes up for a potential reunion.

“You know, it's heartbreaking to say, but it's a bit of a moot point since I'm just too busy over here,” Gilligan told Den of Geek. “And I want to stress and be precise that I haven't been asked to be a part of it.”

So X-Files creator and boss Chris Carter may have lost Gilligan’s number (maybe we can make the connection?), but if the Breaking Bad creator were asked and available?

“Hell yeah! I'd love to work on The X-Files again,” he said. “It was a wonderful job and I had some of the best years of my life writing for that show, learning to produce TV for that show, and learning to direct for that show.”

Gilligan learned his trade working alongside Carter, starting as a writer and creative consultant in season 3. He rose from writer to executive producer, sticking with the series through season 9, the final season of the original run, and co-created and executive produced the short-lived spinoff series, The Lone Gunmen.

The connective tissue from Breaking Bad to The X-Files runs deep. Most notably, Gilligan wrote an X-Files episode called “Drive” and cast Bryan Cranston as the villain.

“It's no stretch at all to say that we wouldn't be talking right now if not for The X-Files because you never would have heard of me," Gilligan said. "I never would have been allowed to create Breaking Bad and to know how to run it. I can't say enough good things about those guys and you can rest assured that I'll be watching as a fan when those next ten episodes hit.”

The X-Files alums Glen and Darin Morgan and James Wong all returned to write and direct episodes for the 2016 revival. Fans are still holding out hope that some of the bigger names on the X-Files creative tree - Gilligan, Frank Spotnitz (The Man in the High Castle), and Howard Gordon (24, Homeland) - will pen episodes for the new season.

The X-Files season 11 will premiere during the 2017-2018 television season.

IT began more than 20 years ago – but fans of The X-Files can soon expect to see another series of the hit sci-fi thriller on their screens.

The show – starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson – has been recommissioned for an impressive 11th season, but what can fans expect?

Will Mulder and Scully return? And when will the series air? Here’s everything you need to know.

When is The X-Files Season 11 on TV?

Series 11 of The X-Files – which first began in 1993 – will consist of 10 episodes and while an official release date has not been confirmed, the Fox network has reassured fans it will be either late 2017 or early 2018.

The new series – which will air on Fox – is giving viewers four extra episodes, as season 10 only consisted of six.

Are David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning for Season 11?

Let’s face it, The X-Files wouldn’t be The X-Files without the actors and their FBI alter egos, Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

After delighting fans by returning to the iconic roles for 2016’s series 10 after a 13 year absence from the small screen and eight years after the last film version of the show, Fox confirmed David and Gillian would be back for season 11.

The network said in a statement: “[Show creator] Chris’ [Carter] creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”

Fox
Season 11 is slated to return in late 2017 or early 2018

What will Season 11 be about?

Fox are typically keeping their cards close to the chest as to what will happen in Season 11, but events will take place two years after season 10.

In the series finale, Mulder’s life was left hanging in the balance as he succumbed to a deadly virus, but in the final moments, a triangle-shaped UFO shone a bright light over him, Scully and Miller.

The episode ended with Scully looking at the lights of the spacecraft.

The X-Files Season 11: What We Know So Far

By Laura Hurley

The X-Files was one of the biggest shows on television during its original run, even inspiring two feature films all about the investigations of Mulder and Scully. Fox brought the show back for a revival Season 10 back in early 2016, and fans got a combination of the mythology, aliens, and monsters that made The X-Files what it was back in the early days. Now, we have to look ahead to the next chapter of the X-Files saga. So, join me in whistling that old theme song, wanting to believe, and trusting that Season 11 is out there. Check out our breakdown of everything we know so far about the future of The X-Files on Fox!

Is The X-Files Renewed?

For quite a while after Season 10 came to an end, it felt like The X-Files was done for good. Sure, Fox and David Duchovny were openly eager to return for more, but Gillian Anderson had her reservations about how much time she would have to spend away from her family to reprise the role of Scully once more, and there's no classic X-Files without both Mulder and Scully in the middle of the action, as Season 9 proved way back in 2001. The longer it took for news to break, the less likely a Season 11 seemed. Then came the announcement that Duchovny and Anderson would be voicing their characters in an audio book. With no accompanying announcement of a TV reunion, that could have been it.

Luckily, it didn't take too much longer for Fox to break the news that The X-Files has officially been renewed for Season 11. The infuriating cliffhanger will be resolved, and we'll get to watch even more monsters, conspiracies, and probably aliens when we get the next batch of episodes.

How Many Episodes Will Be In The X-Files Season 11?

Fox has officially ordered 10 episodes of Season 11 of The X-Files, which is an increase of four from the six-episode Season 10. The ten-episode order falls in line with David Duchovny's previous statements that six episodes was too short for a season but he and Gillian Anderson could definitely not come back for another full 22-episode season. Ten episodes should allow the X-Files team to answer some of the lingering questions from Season 10, delve into new chapters of the mythology with enough detail to make sense, and introduce some entertaining new monsters and mysteries. We'll have to wait and see how many episodes will be Monster of the Week and how many will be devoted to the mythology.

When Will The X-Files Season 11 Premiere?

No official premiere date has yet been set for Season 11, although Fox has announced that it will air at some point in the 2017-2018 TV season. Production is slated to begin this summer. Season 10 aired as a midseason event series, beginning in January and ending in February. Given the huge ratings success The X-Files brought to Fox in early 2016, the odds are pretty good that the network will air Season 11 around the same time. It will obviously run for longer with a ten-episode order, but there's plenty of time in early midseason. We can only speculate at this point, but midseason 2018 is a pretty solid guess.

Who Will Be Back?

At this point, the only big names definitively attached to Season 11 are David Duchovny as Fox Mulder, Gillian Anderson as Dana Scully, and series creator Chris Carter as executive producer. The chances are good that William B. Davis will be back as the Cigarette-Smoking Man, and I know I'd be heartbroken if Mitch Pileggi didn't return yet again as the long-suffering Walter Skinner. Agents Miller and Einstein were still in the mix in the Season 10 finale, so they would make for logical additions to at least the Season 11 premiere. We've probably seen the last of the Lone Gunmen, and both John Doggett and Kersh are probably off the table, but we can likely count on plenty of familiar faces.

Where Did We Leave Off?

The Season 10 finale ended with the fate of the human race in jeopardy thanks to the Spartan virus. Scully came up with a cure, but the crisis was still on a global scale, and she was slightly distracted by the fact that Mulder was circling the drain. Then, what looked an awful lot like an alien spaceship arrived overhead after she mentioned needing to track down her long lost son William. We'll need to see the cliffhanger resolved and some expansion on the William story before we can get back into the Monster of the Week cases at the FBI, so my guess is that Season 11 will get off to a pretty exciting start.

What Questions Still Need To Be Answered?

Any longtime fan of The X-Files knows that there are already about ten years and two movies' worth of questions that are still unanswered, but some are more pressing than others. We've already come up with four huge questions that we absolutely need answered (and you can check out our picks here), but there are plenty left. Who is helping the Cigarette-Smoking Man? Is Scully really immortal? How is Mulder better at hand-to-hand fighting now than when he was a spry 30-something agent? What happened to Doggett? How was William conceived naturally if Scully literally had no ova left?

Obviously, some questions are more likely than others to actually be answered. I've pretty much given up on the answer to the William question, unless somebody cranks up the Moby and convinces Chris Carter to write out a flow chart. Still, there are some that Season 11 almost certainly will address.

Could A Spinoff Happen?

There was all kinds of spinoff chatter when Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose were cast as Agents Miller and Einstein, and then even more chatter once their characters debuted as Mulder and Scully 2.0, but nothing ever came of it. The return of Original Recipe Mulder and Scully for Season 11 naturally gets the priority over The X-Files 2.0, but there's still the chance of a spinoff. If one of the episodes of Season 11 is a backdoor pilot, I'd say that it's possible Fox is at least considering Miller and Einstein as stars of a spinoff. We'll have to wait and see.

Stay tuned to CinemaBlend for the latest in The X-Files news, and don't forget to check out our summer TV premiere schedule to discover all your viewing options now and in the coming weeks. ‘X-Files’ New Season Filming: Can We Hope For Another Awesome Season From Mulder And Scully?

Daniel Ketchum

X-Files will be coming back for another season in the 2017-18 timeframe, and it can’t happen too soon for rabid X-Files fans. The TV medium seems a much better fit for the characters and the stories than the big screen approach the producers tried with minimal success following the end of the original run of X-Files. With the show getting its feet wet last year, can we hope for a return to the awesome seasons of old?

TV X-Files Versus Movies

While there is no denying that the X-Files movies produced after the TV series ended had a certain charm, they felt like an abbreviated and rushed version of the show. In a two-hour or less movie, it’s simply impossible to delve into characters or create long story arcs.

It seems that the folks over at Fox have come to recognize this. Fox president David Madden said the following.

“Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators – these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide. Chris’ creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can’t wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files.”

X-Files Next Season

It’s not entirely clear what direction the show will take in the upcoming season, but we do know that its tremendous success convinced show producers and Fox to expand from the six-episode format we saw last year to a 10-episode format for the upcoming season.

As series creator Chris Carter said in an interview with Fox News, there is certainly a great deal of interest in future episodes of the X-Files.

“There’s an appetite for more in the future; it’s just a matter of figuring out how to get it done.”

Obviously, the show runners are almost certainly going to have to pick up with the closing cliffhanger of last season in which Scully, Mulder, and Miller find themselves apparently about to be abducted by a UFO while Mulder starts succumbing to the virus.

The return of UFO aliens at that point had quite an impact on the audience – with many viewers and critics disliking it – but it will almost certainly guarantee a big audience for the first episode of the next season. Of course, cliffhangers don’t always work out well for show runners these days, as the folks over at The Walking Dead could confirm.

During its heyday in the 90s, X-Files had an enormous following of viewers who believed that “the truth is out there.” The intervening years and the mediocre movies notwithstanding, many of these same people – not to mention their children – were ecstatic when Fox and Chris Carter managed to revive the X-Files series last year.

And while the new incarnation of the X-Files didn’t garner the kind of massive ratings it enjoyed 20 years ago, it was still one of the highest ranked shows on Fox. For Duchovny, the real challenge lay in trying to reinterpret a character and how he might have changed – if any – since we last saw him.

“It was at least 20 years since I started it and maybe six, seven or eight years since I last did it so it was quite a gap. And you are playing the same person, the same character, the same man but he is 20 years older than when he started. So maybe [the] character doesn’t change but people change. It was trying to figure out… this guy because at the beginning he is so kind of youthfully obsessed.”

Fox Fall Schedule: 'Empire' Shifts, 'X-Files' and Many Others Hold for Midseason

Chuck Hodes/FOX

The flagship switches places with 'Star,' as 'Gotham' heads to Thursday with Seth MacFarlane's long-awaited 'Orville.'

Fox is finally moving Empire in an effort to better serve another show. After three years at 9 p.m. on Wednesdays, Empire heads to the top of the night come fall — a tweak made to better serve sister series Star, which will now air in Empire's former hour.

It's one of several adjustments the network is making for its fall schedule. The new lineup, however, lacks one particularly anticipated project in The X-Files — as well as Ryan Murphy drama 9-1-1 and a slew of other buzzy new entries that the network is saving for midseason. Instead the fall slate includes only a few strategic additions — namely Marvel show The Gifted and Seth MacFarlane's long-gestating space dramedy Orville. As has become the norm at Fox, Tuesday and Sunday are the only venues for comedy. The latter night will launch live-action sci-fi half-hour Ghosted. The sitcom, starring Adam Scott and Craig Robinson, will air between The Simpsons and Family Guy.

Fox brass have been adamant about not moving Empire since its hugely successful launch. But as the top-rated drama has aged, it has become evident that the show's ratings are not dependent on the time slot. More and more Empire viewers are watching the drama on their own time.

Orville faces an incredibly daunting lineup in its Thursday time slot. Not only do the first few weeks of the season feature NFL games on CBS, but NBC announced Sunday that it was moving freshman juggernaut This Is Us to Thursday at 9 p.m. As a lead-in, Orville will have Batman prequel Gotham. Monday sees some minor changes in Gotham's absence but no shift in genre. Lucifer, in its move to 8 p.m., will be the launch pad for X-Men-ish drama The Gifted. Also opening a night is Lethal Weapon. Fox's bona fide breakout of the previous season uncouples from Empire to lead into comedies The Mick and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The latter will face off against The Good Place on NBC — with both shows exec produced by Mike Schur. The final season of New Girl, like Fox-favored L.A. to Vegas, is on the bench for midseason.

Friday is a something of a no-brainer. The night will start the season with Hell's Kitchen, followed by The Exorcist.

The biggest midseason entry is The X-Files. The veteran drama, which soared to ratings highs during its limited return in 2016, starts filming another 10 episodes this summer. Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk's Angela Bassett vehicle, 9-1-1, will also arrive after the fall — as will medical drama The Resident. (Fox has been missing a true medical drama, a favorite among the Big Four, since House.)

On the specials front, the live staging of A Christmas Story will bow in December (naturally) with Rent following at some point down the line.

The X-Files Confirmed to Return Midseason 2018

By Danny F. Santos

FOX is reopening The X-Files once again for a second event series next year. Both David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are set to reprise their iconic roles as Agents Mulder and Scully, probably picking up where they left off at the cliffhanger of the previous season. Chris Carter is once again on board to spearhead the next chapter as showrunner for the series.

The announcement for this second event series — which fans will undoubtedly dub season 11 — came late last month, with FOX announcing an expanded 10 episode order over the first event series’ six episodes. It was pretty unsurprising that the show would get a follow-up as the first X-Files event series did extremely well despite some mixed critical reviews.

Now we have a better idea of when The X-Files will return to the small screen. In a press release from the network, The X-Files is set to return mid-season of 2018. Here’s the relevant information:

In 2018, additional new series and events joining the schedule include dramas 9-1-1 and THE RESIDENT; comedy LA TO VEGAS; and an all-new installment of event series THE X-FILES.

The next chapter of THE X-FILES, a thrilling, 10-episode second installment of the event series, once again will be executive-produced by creator Chris Carter, with stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson returning in their roles as iconic FBI Agents FOX MULDER and DANA SCULLY. In 2016, THE X-FILES drew an average multi-platform audience of nearly 16 million viewers and was the season’s No. 2 broadcast drama, as well as the most talked-about event series on Twitter.

Although no date was specifically given for the return of the series, the 2018 release for it seems to indicate that FOX is planning on premiering second event series in the same time-slot as the first. Fans should expect the new event series to land on or around January 28th or 29th, 2018 depending on whether the series will once again premiere on a Sunday followed by its regular Monday time-slot.

The expanded 10 episode order is also a welcome change for those who thought the previous season was too short — which includes star David Duchovny. With only six episodes to play around with the first time, creator Chris Carter and his team decided to bookend the season 10 with two mythology episodes leaving the four episodes in the middle as standalones. With the second event series, fans should probably expect a more even split of four or five mythology episodes. Considering past X-Files seasons, we should expect a few of those mythology episodes to land somewhere in the middle of the season, with a seemingly standalone episode that leads into a mythology episode.

Two years is still a long wait between seasons and if a third event series is commissioned, it likely won’t hit the small screen until January 2020 at this rate. Chris Carter has previously said there are no plans for a spinoff series but one has to wonder if FOX feels there is room for the X-Files franchise to expand now that it has been revived.

The X-Files looks to return in January of 2018.

The X-Files Musical Episode? Gillian Anderson, David Duchovny Dish Hopes for New Episodes

by Chris Harnick | Tue, May 16, 2017 4:42 PM

The truth is still out there, but David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson don't know what it is just yet. The X-Files returns to Fox this season—yes, again—but this time for 10 episodes full of Mulder and Scully action as opposed to the last batch of six.

When viewers last saw Mulder (Duchovny) and Scully (Anderson), the dynamic duo was on the race to save mankind.

"I think I was on the verge of saving the entire universe," Anderson told E! News at Fox's Upfronts. "Chris Carter has not told me yet whether I managed to save the human race. But given that we're doing 10 episodes, one imagines that I save it for 10 episodes worth of time, maybe? Or maybe part of the human race? Well at least I'm still alive because I'm on it for 10 episodes."

The episode ended with Scully racing to Mulder with the alien cure…only to have a UFO appear above them, shining its light down on the fearless FBI agents.

"Iconic characters, rich storytelling, bold creators—these are the hallmarks of great TV shows. And they are some of the reasons why The X-Files has had such a profound impact on millions of fans worldwide," David Madden, president, Fox Broadcasting Company, said in a statement. "Chris' creativity, along with the brilliant work of David and Gillian, continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon, and we can't wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files."

Duchovny told us that while he had a hand in stories during The X-Files' original run, he's not privy to plot details, including the outcome to the cliffhamger. "I guess I'm just in the dark, unless I write something," he told us.

"I don't think the people playing the characters are the best judges of where the show should go, nor do I think the fans are, to be honest with you. I'm of the ‘if it ain't broke, don't fix it.' These are writers that have been at it a long time with this show. Chris is the proprietor of these characters. I think his instincts have always been pretty good," Duchovny said.

In addition to cliffhanger resolution, Anderson said she's interested in exploring what happened to Mulder and Scully's son, William. "Do I want to know? Yes, yes I want to know what happened to William," Anderson said.

"I think the search for William is certainly something [they] think about in the morning when they wake up and there are big mysteries to be solved and resolved," Carter told us when the season finale aired in 2016. "I think the hunt for their baby is the most personal of their quests."

Anderson and Duchovny are both pursuing other projects when they're not investigating the paranormal, one of those avenues for Duchovny is music. Could we see an X-Files musical episode this time around? Duchovny seems down. Anderson? Hit play on the video above.

The X-Files returns midseason on Fox.

Thanks for this little snippet Jade. They are right IMO. Last year Carter wasted 4 of 6 episodes.

X-Files Season 11: Glen and Darin Morgan To Pen New Episodes

The X-Files season 11 is slated for 2018 and will bring back some familiar faces on the creative staff.

Chris Longo
May 31, 2017

The X-Files
season 11 will pick up after a cliffhanger, that much is certain. Fox's 10-episode order still leaves a number of unanswered questions, including how many monster-of-the-week episodes we’ll get, who will be writing scripts, and if we’ll get the return of Mulder and Scully Jr.

One answer we did get was from writer and producer Glen Morgan. We sat down with Morgan on the set of his new series, an adaptation of the popular genre podcast Lore for Amazon (the details of which we’re not yet at liberty to discuss), and he confided that he’ll be jetting off to Vancouver after he wraps production on Lore to begin working on The X-Files.

Morgan, who wrote and directed the season 10 episode “Home Again,” said he’ll be writing two episodes for The X-Files season 11. “I’m going to do two, and I know what one is,” he said.

He added that his brother, Darin, known for penning X-Files classics like “Jose Chung's 'From Outer Space’” and last season’s “Mulder and Scully Meet The Were-monster,” will again write an episode for the series.

While Morgan says they’ve already began talking about ideas for the new season, he said the resolution of the season 10 finale is up to X-Files creator Chris Carter. On his return to the series, Morgan told us: “It’s the same as it’s been for 20 years,” he said. “Everyone gets along, it’s like a family.”

The X-Files season 11 is set for midseason. We're keeping tabs on all the latest news in our season 11 news hub.

The X-Files season 11 is a sure thing and here are the first details

The truth is right here, actually.

By Rianne Houghton
1 June 2017

We may have to wait until next year to get our latest instalment of cult classic The X-Files, but the first details of its 11th season are already starting to emerge.

Following confirmation that Mulder and Scully will be back next year for another run, writer and producer Glen Morgan has teased what fans can expect from the new season.

And, as it turns out, it'll be much of the same mystery and intrigue – which is just how we like it.

Chatting to Den of Geek, Morgan also confirmed that he'll be writing two episodes for the upcoming season, after the success of season 10's 'Home Again'.

Revealing that his brother Darin will also write again for the series, Glen said: "I'm going to do two, and I know what one is."

On his return to the sci-fi drama, he added: "It's the same as it's been for 20 years. Everyone gets along, it's like a family."

Fox recently confirmed that The X-Files will return to screens next year with a 10-episode run, compared to last season's six.

The network's president, David Madden, praised the show for its "iconic characters, rich storytelling [and] bold creators" as the "hallmarks" of great television.

"Chris [Carter's] creativity, along with the brilliant work of David [Duchovny] and Gillian [Anderson], continue to propel this pop culture phenomenon," he added.

"We can't wait to see what fresh mysteries Mulder and Scully uncover in this next chapter of The X-Files."

If you can't wait to see the resolution of season 10's epic cliffhanger, then you'll be pleased to hear that there's Mulder and Scully content heading your way in the form of The X-Files: Cold Cases.

Duchovny and Anderson have both recently signed on for the series of audio dramas, which will fill in the events before last year's long-awaited TV revival.

START: THE X-FILES Season 11 with David Duchovny & Gillian Anderson Expected to Start Filming August 8th in Vancouver

By Susan Gittins May 31, 2017

10 more episodes. Fox announced a new Event series of The X-Files next season. Production is expected to get underway on August 8th and wrap December 21st in Vancouver with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson reprising their roles as Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. Will we meet their son William?

Where did we leave off?

The season 10 finale, My Struggle, Part 2, bookended the season opener, My Struggle, as people across America fell ill provoking widespread panic as Scully looked for a cure.

Her alien DNA protected her but Mulder fell ill in a car on Washington D.C.’s Interstate 695 — also known as the Southeast Freeway — played by Vancouver’s Georgia Viaduct.

Scully ran to injured Mulder.

And then stared up at the light in the sky.

Alien Cliffhanger.

The X-Files season 11 starts filming August 8th and wraps December 21st (dates subject to change) in metro Vancouver.

Writer Glen Morgan Reveals He’s Back For The X-Files Season 11

June 1, 2017

Credit: Jason Madara for Variety

The X-Files might not be returning to our screens until 2018, but the first bits of information about the upcoming 11th season are slowly starting to filter through.

We know that series creator Chris Carter is returning, as are series stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson. The next season will also run for 10 episodes, up four from last year’s six-episode limited season. So what else do we have in store for us?

Writer and producer Glen Morgan recently spoke with Den of Geek, providing plenty to tease fans with, after all, what’s The X-Files without mystery, intrigue, and some red herrings thrown our way? And it looks like we are in for more of the same.

Morgan, who wrote last year’s “Home Again” as well as plenty of eps from the original series, including such iconic episodes as “Ice”, “Beyond the Sea”, “One Breath”, “Home” and “Never Again”, will be back and writing two of the episodes. At this early stage, he knows what one of these will be, but remained tight-lipped on the plot. However, he did also reveal another writer from the original series who is making a return – his brother Darin.

Darin famously starred as the Flukeman in season one’s “The Host” and as shapeshifter Eddie Van Blundht in “Small Potatoes” from season four. He also brought some weird, left-of-centre humour to the series, penning the episodes “Humbug”, “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose”, War of the Coprophages”, “Quagmire” and “Jose Chung’s From Outer Space”. Expect some more of the same from him in season 11 as we saw last season with “Mulder and Scully Meet The Were-monster”.

Ideas are currently being tossed around for episodes and storylines for the upcoming season, but what he didn’t provide any information on was the possible resolution of that almighty cliffhanger. The resolution of that particular storyline is going to be left up to Carter (should we be worried?).

The X-Files will be back midseason on FOX. If you need a Mulder and Scully fix before then, head over to Audible in July where a series of audio dramas will be available. Featuring both Duchovny and Anderson along with other famous series voices, The X-Files: Cold Cases will fill in events from between the second film outing and the last season.
