2010/04/28 - Buxton, Derbyshire, UK

Post by Songbird on Tue 6 Apr - 9:36

Hi

I was advised to get in touch with UNICEF UK before commencing with any event. I received a reply from a lady at the London office and she will be browsing the HODD site. She’s really pleased with the whole idea of the Hoddie project and over the phone even asked me how DD is involved with UNICEF? She was very impressed when I explained about his wife Tea being an ambassador in the US, and especially the fact that her mother was one of the co-founders of the charity.

Hi Penny,

Thanks for calling back earlier and thank you so much for all the effort

you and your friends are putting into the fundraising for UNICEF.

I will get the fundraising materials sent to you and I have attached the

in aid of UNICEF logo which has been designed specifically for our

fundraisers to use. Could you send me a copy of the posters you have

designed with this logo so I can check any information about UNICEF is

accurate and up to date?

Thanks again and please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any

questions

Best wishes

Alyrene

Denying child rights is wrong. Put it right.

There are lots of ways to get involved with UNICEF: trekking in the

Sahara Desert, motor biking through South Africa, entering a running

event or fundraising through your local church, school or at work. For

more information please visit www.unicef.org.uk/howyoucanhelp

Below is my completed poster, with logo now approved by UNICEF UK.

For those of you who don't know, my gig is being recorded and clips will eventually be available via Youtube. Hoddie and I will be performing the 'Duchovny' song by Bree Sharp!

Knackered walking around town - but I did get some items and getting more tomorrow!

I just hope Hoddie will get here soon. I'm just a bit worried I won't have him at the gig, and my aim was to get him on the recording. But I do have till Friday for that.

Getting in touch with more local radio stations to see if they'll advertise as well?

Thanks for checking Timmy!

Sorry to hear about your friend, I didn't know.

If Hoddie left Wed, then I should get him Mon or Tues at the latest.

The items range from chocolate eggs, box of chocs, sweets, hat and gloves set, toiletries, gift voucher, bottles of booze and I'm donating a couple of DVD's never been opened (X Files - Fight The Future and The Simpson's (which includes The Springfield Files.)

I had a spare X Files, because our local cinema was giving them away when they premiered IWTB. So that came in handy!

Everythng's ready now - but still NO sign of Hoddie bear?? It's been a week now since he was posted. The only concern I have is if this lady in Canada sent him by surface mail? That takes about a month to reach UK. So he not only won't make it to my event - he won't get to Belgium in time either. I hope that's not the case and the post is just late?

Fingers crossed!

I checked online and it says 7-10 business days via airmail, so that's 2 weeks max! Oh well, all I can do is wait and hope he makes it to the event. I still plan on taking photos to put up at the site, which may now have to be after the 16th? I know it can't be helped if your friend had to go into hospital.

PS: Now I've discovered all UK airports are closed down all day due to volcanic ash from Iceland! WTF?? So that's gonna slow things up! And I have a bloody stomache bug AGAIN (my mum and a friend have had it a second time as well) and feel like crap! Oh happy day!

April 28th 2010 - Buxton, Derbyshire, UK

Post by Songbird on Wed 28 Apr - 12:36

After an extremely long journey over from Canada, I'm very happy to report that Hoddie made it safe and sound to my abode yesterday. But he was so jet lagged he needed plenty of rest! The reason for this huge delay was because of a volcano errupting in Iceland which caused volcanic ash to cover the UK! Planes were halted in and out of the country, holiday makers were stranded...and so was poor Hoddie! But, once he'd arrived he quickly settled in and made some new friends.

Here he is chilling out on our bed with all my fluffy toys. And yes the tabby cat isn't real.

Caspurr however is, and here's Hoddie sunning himself in the garden with our little

The sun went behind some clouds so I brought him into the living room, where we discovered The Joneses trailer on the TV!

Hoddie immediately wished to immitate his alter ego on the screen.

The movie was released in our nearest city of Stockport today! But unfortunately it is only being shown
for a few days So I plan on seeing it tomorrow night.

Later - Hoddie had a listen to my CD demo, only as you can see my headphones were a bit big for him. (By the way, I managed to sell 8 copies for £2.50 each for UNICEF.)

Sadly he'd missed the gig and karaoke on Friday 16th, and wanted to have a go at performing. So he borrowed my microphone and pretended he was on American Idol!

And even wrote a little song...

I travel to so many places

To bring a smile to children’s faces

And journey over land and sea

To raise money for this charity

My name is Hoddie - I’m very rare

‘Cos I’m the The House of David Duchovny bear!

Yeah, yeah yeah!

Photos of sightseeing around Buxton will be up shortly. Then he's off to Disley tomorrow where I held the event and on Friday he's going to karaoke night at The Plough Boy pub to meet the folks who helped make the 16th such a success. And when I've got the editing completed, there will also be pics from that evening - also links to video clips of my gig and a medley of karaoke singers (including my husband Pete.) Next week he's taking Hoddie to work with him, and is going to teach him to drive a Trent bus!

Later,

Penny xx
