Ratings: ‘Big Brother 18’ rises as ‘Aquarius’ season 2, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ steady

The official ratings for last night’s TV lineup are in, and for the most part, it’s easy to have one sentiment about them: Indifference. After all, there’s nothing that notable that happened, but there were enough shows on the air that it is still worthwhile to write up a little bit of a report here.

Let’s start with what what to us is one of the few bits of good news that we have to report: “Big Brother 18” continuing to fare pretty solidly in its second Thursday on the air. While a 1.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic is not a substantial improvement, this is the show continuing to prove that it has one of the most loyal followings out there. We’d say that we are worried about the season going in a predictable direction, but the ratings for past predictable seasons (see season 12 or season 16) do not demonstrate any evidence that this causes people to really tune out.

Elsewhere, there were a lot of steady numbers, in particular with “Beauty and the Beast” (0.2) on The CW and “Aquarius” (0.4) on NBC. Granted, neither one of these numbers probably matters much in the big picture, given that the former is in its final season and the latter has ratings so low we’d almost have a heart attack if it is brought back.

As for some other unscripted programming, “BattleBots” over on ABC dropped to a 0.9, the premiere of “Greatest Hits” drew a decent 1.1, and “Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge” improved to a 1.0. Given that it’s summer, none of these numbers are horrible.

If you do want to get some other news right now when it comes to “Big Brother,” be sure to head over to the link here! Also, sign up over at this link to secure some other TV news on all we cover, sent right over to you via our official CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: CBS.)

Thursday final ratings: ‘Bones’ and ‘Spartan’ adjust up, ‘Aquarius’ adjusts down

Posted 3:14 pm, July 15, 2016, by Rick Porter

Final broadcast primetime live + same-day ratings for Thursday, July 14, 2016

Two shows had their 18-49 ratings adjust upward from Thursday’s fast national numbers to the finals. NBC’s “Spartan: Ultimate Team Challenge” (1.0, up 0.1 vs. last week) and FOX’s “Bones” (0.9, even with its last episode) each came up a tenth of a point in the demo.

NBC’s “Aquarius” adjusted down a tenth to a 0.4, matching last week’s rating. A “Life in Pieces” rerun (1.1) on CBS also adjusted down a tenth.

ABC’s “The President and the People” news special aired commercial-free and is not part of the network’s final average. Its fast national rating is noted with an asterisk.

Upward adjustments in adults 18-49 are in green; downward adjustments are in red.

Definitions:
Rating: Estimated percentage of the universe of TV households (or other specified group) tuned to a program in the average minute. Ratings are expressed as a percent.
Fast Affiliate Ratings: These first national ratings are available at approximately 11 a.m. ET the day after telecast. The figures may include stations that did not air the entire network feed, as well as local news breaks or cutaways for local coverage or other programming. Fast Affiliate ratings are not as useful for live programs and are likely to differ significantly from the final results, because the data reflect normal broadcast feed patterns.
Share (of Audience): The percent of households (or persons) using television who are tuned to a specific program, station or network in a specific area at a specific time.
Time Shifted Viewing: Program ratings for national sources are produced in three streams of data – Live, Live +Same-Day and Live +7 Day. Time-shifted figures account for incremental viewing that takes place with DVRs. Live+SD includes viewing during the same broadcast day as the original telecast, with a cut-off of 3 a.m. local time when meters transmit daily viewing to Nielsen for processing. Live +7 ratings include  viewing that takes place during the 7 days following a telecast.

[08/28/16 - 08:23 AM]
"Aquarius" Matches Its Season High in 18-49; Highest Ever for a Saturday Telecast
NBC spins the numbers for Saturday, August 27.

[via press release from NBC]

In Late-Night Metered-Market Household Averages for Saturday Night:

· An encore telecast of "Saturday Night Live," with host Jonah Hill and musical guest Future, averaged a 2.2 rating, 6 share in household results from the 56 markets metered by Nielsen Media Research and a 0.9/5 in adults 18-49 in the 25 markets with local people meters.

· With its first telecast in four weeks, "Saturday Night Live" equaled its highest 18-49 rating in the metered markets since June 25 (1.0/5 with host Matthew McConaughey and musical guest Adele)

· The Aug. 27 "SNL" equaled the show's August 2015 average in 18-49 in the local people meters (0.9 vs. 0.9 for August 2015).

· Note that "SNL" adds significant viewership via time-shifting, with originals this past season growing by +49% going from L+SD to L+7 in adults 18-49 (1.83 to 2.72) and +2.090 million persons in total viewers (6.051 million to 8.141 million).

Saturday Primetime Ratings:

Note there were multiple local preemptions last night for NFL pre-season football on most networks, so Saturday fast-affiliate results are subject to significant revision. As these preliminary numbers stand...

A rebroadcast of "America's Got Talent" (0.5/3 in 18-49, 2.8 million viewers overall from 8-9 p.m. ET):

· Is currently up versus the show's previous Saturday encore by 0.1 of a point in 18-49 (0.5 vs. 0.4 at 8 p.m. on July 30) and +7% in total viewers (2.832 million vs. 2.652 million).

"Aquarius" (0.4/2 in 18-49, 2.1 million viewers overall from 9-10 p.m. ET):

· Is currently matching its season high in 18-49, pending updates.

· Is currently reporting the show's highest 18-49 and total-viewer results to date for a Saturday telecast.

· Will increase substantially via time-shifting and VOD - "Aquarius" has increased by +35% this summer in 18-49 rating (from a 0.40 to a 0.54) and 695,000 viewers overall (1.8 million to 2.5 million) going from L+SD to L+7 Nielsens.

A second telecast of "Aquarius" (0.3/1 in 18-49, 1.6 million viewers overall from 10-11 p.m. ET):

· Is currently equaling the show's second-highest 18-49 rating to date for a Saturday episode, pending updates, and generating its second-biggest total-viewer average for a Saturday telecast, behind only last night's 9 p.m. edition.

NOTE: All ratings are "live plus same day" from Nielsen Media Research unless otherwise indicated.

Thanks. That's not bad for a Saturday night, isn't it? But it won't help not to get cancelled...

Wow! That's pretty good considering it wasn't even on On Demand or its regular station.

Broadcast primetime live + same-day ratings for Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016

Note: CBS’ live national coverage of the NFL preseason, plus local pre-emptions on NBC and FOX affiliates, could result in greater adjustments than usual for those networks.

The numbers for Saturday:

TimeShowAdults 18-49 Rating/ShareViewers (millions)
8 p.m.NFL Preseason Football (CBS) (8-11 p.m.)1.0/44.28
UFC Fight Night (FOX) (8-10 p.m.)0.8/32.22
America’s Got Talent (NBC) – R0.5/22.83
Last Man Standing (ABC) – R0.5/22.51
8:30 p.m.Dr. Ken (ABC) – R0.4/22.12

Aquarius (NBC)0.4/22.1
10 p.m.Boston EMS (ABC) – F0.5/22.59
Aquarius (NBC)0.3/11.6
CBS’ coverage of the NFL preseason games gave the network the top spot in the Saturday ratings this week, with an average 1.0 rating  in adults 18-49 throughout three hours. FOX’s broadcast of UFC Fight Night followed closely behind as well with a 0.8 average.

“Boston EMS” scored two consistent 0.5s for ABC also, while “Aquarius” raked in a 0.4 and a 0.3 throughout two hours for NBC.

Total Viewers (millions)2.172.424.282.22
