Australia on busy Duchovny schedule

Post by sir on Mon 1 Jun - 3:53

The Washington Post’s TV critic Hank Stuever calls it the “Duchovnaissance”.

All of a sudden David Duchovny is everywhere; writing his first book, releasing his debut album, starring in the 60s crime thriller Aquarius and later this month, reprising the role of Fox Mulder when filming starts on the reboot of The X Files.

If Duchovny has his way, he’ll also fit in a visit to Australia into his busy schedule so fans can hear him perform Hell or Highwater live, an album already earning comparisons to Wilco and Tom Petty.

“I want to tour too, I want to come to Australia,” he toldAAA by phone from New York on Friday night, WA time.

“I love the album, I love the music, I can’t believe it is out there and I can’t wait for you all to hear it, it has been one of the best creative experiences of my life.”

Aquarius premiered in the US with a double episode on Thursday night, then NBC made all episodes available for streaming on Friday. Presto launched the entire season here on Friday afternoon, the difference being Australian viewers get the racier director’s cut.

Set in 1967, Aquarius revolves around World War II veteran and Hollywood homicide cop Sam Hodiak (Duchovny) as he grapples with social and political change while trying to find his ex-girlfriend Grace’s daughter Emma.

Emma has fallen in with free-loving, aspiring musician Charlie Manson (Gethin Anthony), whose fluid sexuality and propensity for sudden violence is displayed early on.

“The idea that somebody is going to sit down and watch 11 more hours of television to me today is quite amazing,” says Duchovny of the prospect that some viewers would binge-watch the series at the weekend.

“I wonder how they get enough time to do that but more power to them if they can.

“It is multi-arc, multi-character, broad canvas kind of epic storytelling and not just a procedural that raises cases and wraps them up week by week.

“I think it lends itself to that kind of viewing.”

Aquarius is now streaming on Presto. Visit presto.com.au for more details.
